Ive installed windows 2000 for the time being on my sisters computer (not the original OS). I am not currently hooked up to the net on that particular cpu. When I go to device manager, there are many yellow signs. In addition to this, I'm only able to display 16 colors. I went to dell's web to find drivers for this system but there were several choices. Here's my question. How can I find out what hardware I have in this cpu and where can I find the drivers for it? It seems that I need a driver for a video controller, multimedia audio and something called pci device. Please help!!!

You can use software to get this information. First I'd look in start menu/ system tools/ system information/ components/ then select the appropriate device and it will display some relevant information. Often it may not give you all the answers. The best way I know, is to open the case, and take a look at the motherboard model, get updates from manfacturers web site. Then check the PCI cards for model #'s and again download the appropriate drivers.

Keep in mind: If this is the first time you've opened up a computer you may want to get some help. It's not dangerous, however you could short out some of the components if they are not handled correctly.

Send me an email if you need more help.
