Assignment America: What is the public nudity law in your area?

Quite often, it is suggested to answer the door nude when Jehovah's Witnesses come knocking. Here in Kansas City, if a neighbor complained seeing you nude at your front door, regardless of the reason, you get charged with a sex crime. If convicted, that means having to register as a sex offender, though this only applies to male offenders.

What are the laws in your area?

On this note, there was a case in our neighborhood where a couple answered the door naked, thinking that the suited man and woman at their door were witnesses. They were a plain clothes police officer and a social service grief counselor, there to notify them that their daughter had been killed in an early morning drunk driving accident.

The typical Jehovah's Witness knocks at hundreds of doors each year. He has already experienced degrading behavior from householders, some of whom: stand there naked, mimic Satanists, proposition lewd acts, brandish weapons, sic dogs, scream profanities, accuse crimes, and call Witnesses anti-American (inside the USA) or pro-American (outside the USA).

Haven't these accusers ever heard of 'hedging your bets'? Simple risk vs. reward analysis should make anyone very reluctant to abuse these ministers.

(Acts 5:38,39) I say to you, Do not meddle with these men, but let them alone; (because, if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; but if it is from God, you will not be able to overthrow them;) otherwise, you may perhaps be found fighters actually against God.”

Jehovah's Witnesses are going to knock on a door unless the householder specifically and unequivocally tells them their knocks are unwelcome, or if they fear for their own safety. Nothing else will really deter them, so anti-Witness nudists would be going to a lot of effort to accomplish nothing but pleasing Satan.


Really, if someone goes out of their way to disregard Christian preachers and preaching, what is he saying about himself?

(Luke 10:1-17) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos... “He that listens to you listens to me too. And he that disregards you disregards me too. Moreover, he that disregards me disregards also him that sent me forth.”

I can't comment on the laws of the United States since I live in Canada, but in Canada you can be naked as much you should want within your own home.

Even coming to the door naked, is within your rights, as long as you own the property. The few years ago, women through various court challenges won the right to be bare their breasts in public without being charged with indecency.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see any women taking advantage of this hard-fought victory.

It's the same here. Had a neighbor who was accused of flashing at the front door. I never believed it, don't know what happened over it, they moved, after being harassed by other neighbors.

Wow. Sucks to be them. Did they get arrested, on top of losing their daughter??

Here in California, it would be illegal too - but youre allowed to answer the door wearing a towel, and if it accidentally falls off ala Janet Jackson "malfunction"...so be it!

I will admit that, as a teenager, I answered teh door in my underwear with my best friend and our arms were wrapped around each other.
