4 parts water
1 part granulated sugar

Bring to a boil, let cool and put in a clean feeder.

Don't add red food color - it's not good for them. People think they need red to attract the birds, but you don't.

The right amount is 1 part sugar to every 4 parts water. It is not very good to have the food coloring. It you want to feed the hummingbirds from the feeder, that is already red (red is their "favorite" color)

My mom has always made hers one part sugar to 2 parts water. I would recommend buying a red hummingbird feeder and skip the food coloring. I don't think it will hurt them but I don't think it's good for them either. The color is what attracts them.

1 part sugar to 4 of water. skip the food coloring, it isn't necessary. I boil my water first then mix in the sugar, pour it into a clean container and wait for it to cool. Refrigerate any leftover.
