Offer to pay half. Do some extra chores around the house to help pay for it. Or maybe your dad cant afford another phone right now. Ask him if you buy the phone if he will put you on his plan. Then check out all the cell phone plans. I was added to my husbands plan and my phone (reg $90) only cost me $10. A cheap phone is better then none at all, you can always upgrade. YOu could even offer to take your moms phone and let her get a new one. It would be a start.

well im guessing that you aren't old enough for a job or don't have one which is why they are more strict with the whole situation. Your dad is right though, you don't really need a phone if you have a house phone and you are allowed to use your mom's phone when you go out. think about it, when else will you use one? I'm alson guessing that you aren't old enough to drive because when you start driving i think is the most important time to have a cell phone in case of emergencies in the car. just wait it out until either you get a job and are able to pay for the phone and the bills or until you are driving then try asking your dad again.

Don't know how old your are and that is a factor for a good answer...but $30 doesn' cut it for me...even if you get a phone who is going to pay the bill? dah your father...so he has to decide if HE can afford such a luxury...and by using your moms phone you are getting the phone for "in case of" not to impress or mimic your friends...
Perhaps they dont' have what you have...a dad who cares about you. Is your dad running around feeling like you about what his friends have that he doesn't...no...he grew up and realizes that money doesn't come from trees....and although the grass is greener with a friend...it may all be just to hide the horror they really live with.

By paying for it yourself. He already pays for a home phone line; he shouldn't have to pay for a personal one for you, too.
Start saving. I know you don't want to hear that, but you'll gain a lot of respect and love the phone that much more.

Maybe you mom could twist his ear, as SHE needs a phone, too, not keep loaning hers to you. You could perhaps plan on paying for your own "time" on calls, to keep them in reasonable ranges. He is probably afraid you'd run up charges he doesn't want to pay for. Good luck.

Maybe prove to him you can be responsible with what you have then maybe he'll get you one. Cell phones are expensive and not toys.
