There are churches and there are crosses, but a cross on a church does not mean its a legitimate Christian church. I would not return there.

that story has been going around for centuries! if you delve into it you will find it was from well before science came into the picture of death. unfortunately, when people die various fluids are released from the body. while i am a Christaian AND Polish - i can saw without bias - the person was correct that the body did weigh less, however that was not due to the soul.
another story - t his one by my dad.... in the early 40's when he was a young altar boy, dead bodies were kept inthe basement or sdie room of the church prior to burial. this was before the days of embalming as standard practice. well as young boys - maybe 10 or so - they were curious adn started walking toward the body. at just the "right time" the body "sat up emmitting a moan"!! they ran for the hills (so to speak). since they really weren't supposed to be around the body they didn't say anything. once he "grew up" and learned about reality - he understood that this was possibly and probable - the body was releasing it's internal body gasses!!! however we still laugh heartily at the story!

Okay I have been to a lot of churches and lots of denominations and i have never heard something so weird. Your soul does not weigh anything. That would be saying that your conscious weighs a certain amount. He is trying to find physical proof that heaven exists. But if you would really read into the bible there is not physical proof of heaven God wants you to have FAITH. So weighing someone to prove that there is a heaven is so weird. I think they have lost their minds.

Haha, that's a messed up church; the body does lose about 3 ounces as gases such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, and nitrogen housed in the blood and lungs leave the body. There's nothing metaphysical about it.
My best friend is a mortician.

Yeah, that's the whole 21 grams thing. Weighed a guy just before he died, then just after the moment of death, to find he'd lost 21 grams of weight. Did the same thing with a dog, nothing happened. Therefore a soul weighs 21 grams and humans have them, not dogs. In the end however, his practices were considered fallible due to shaky methods and small sample size. Still, if it makes crazy Christians feel better...

Total rubbish as the spirit has no weight at all, as one other answer already said this was body fluid that evaporated due to the heat within the church.

Actually, I heard something like that on TV not too long ago. I think it's ridiculous. I wouldn't think that your soul (spirit) would have any mass or weight to it. I wouldn't want to be associated with anything like that. All churches aren't like that. I know my church certainly isn't!

Wow. I had never heard of that theory, but the body loses fluids and gases so that isn't very supernatural. It's biology. Maybe you shouldn't think about returning or at least talk to your friend about it. If they believe it you may have to start educating your friend.

My friend you went to what I called "the uneducated" denomination. Let me guess they were Pentecostal? Some people really believe wacky stuff man. Did they start babling nonsense and dance around the church?
