I am trying to make DVDs in my DVD burner to play on my DVD player, but will only play in the DVD ROM?

I am using DVD-R disks, downloading from MP3 Rocket, and the file extensions are .avi, I made the disks with Roxio and another by drag and drop. None work on either of my DVD players (the owners manuel says they can play DVD-R disks) Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Yes your manual says that it can play DVD-R disks however you also need to know what format they can play. By format I mean the file extension: mpg, avi, divx, mov, wma, etc. It sounds like your DVD player does not play avi files. You will need to convert the file into a format which your DVD player can use.
