All historical writings have a slant or an agenda. The bible is no different. It does present some historical truth and it doesn't, as well. The difficulty is aligning the historical accuracy from the mythology.

I believe, for example, that Jesus was a living person. I do not believe he was a deity. Finding evidence of his life is not proof that god exists or that the bible itself is completely accurate in everything. Finding evidence that Jesus existed merely means that Jesus most likely existed.

I don't believe, for example, in the great flood or the tower of babel. I think those myths explain natural phenomena that is more accurately explained by something else. The great flood didn't cover the world, but it sure wiped out the land where the writer of that myth lived. People speak different languages because they were a part of different tribes and isolation had them developing language and culture differently than others.

Some biblical history has been proven, but biblical interpretation of history has not.

The Shroud of Turin has been demonstrated to be a mideval forgery. The existence of the Dead Sea scrolls is not proof of their veracity. The exisistence of Pharisie tombs is not evidence that Biblically described events took place.

No trace of a worldwide flood, no trace of a migration of 2 million people from Egypt to Canaan, no possible real world way that an ark could have done what the Bible says it did, no contemporary historians of Jesus even noticing his existence, and no trace in any of the world's history of the sun standing still in the sky for a full day.

Genesis is pure myth. See "The Bible Unearthed", and "Misquoting Jesus".

The Shroud of Turin is a hoax, and has been proven so.

The Odyssey, written by Homer, described a city called Troy. It was believed to be a legend, until it was unearthed in the late 1860's. So, by your logic, that means everything else written in the Odyssey is a fact, including the greek God Pantheon, correct??

Point is, sure the Bible has SOME history in it. All good books do. Thats what makes Harry Potter so realistic and enjoyable. Buit it doesnt mean wizards are real and fly on broomsticks...and the small amount of fact in the Bible does not make the entire Bible historically accurate either.

The bible is a fictional novel. Nice book, but fiction. Just like in any fiction book, you can find a lot of factual accuracies in it.

In The Da Vinci Code, the main characters travel to Rome. The book also mentions that Rome is in Italy. I bet in 2,000 years some people on this planet will take that simple sentence to point out the historical facts in the Da Vinci Code. "Rome really was in Italy! See?!"

There is no proof of any of the 'magical' things mentioned in the Bible. Nobody ever found remains of a Tower of Babel, the Garden of Eden, the Ark, the Cross or whatever.

Oh wait, the Cross has been found at least 5,000 times.

The Shroud of Turin has been disproven (by one of my professors). It is much younger than the necessary age as determined by C12/C13/C14 mass spectroscopy. Since the Bible was written around the end of the Babylonian exile, more recent events are better documented. The quality deteriorates steadily as you go farther back from then. Even so, there was a lot of political spin in the Bible.

It is obvious there is biblical history. Are we not creating the same today?

Nothing about biblical history proves the existence of a all powerful God that created the universe. It just tell us what primitive cultures believed or how they may have lived. Get it?

Some of what is in the Bible can be used (carefully) as a historical document. The "magical" parts must be thrown out as mythological, as there is no evidence that they actually occured. However, it seems likely that at least some of what is in that book is relatively faithfully recorded, if highly embellished in some places.

It is much like the mythology we have about the battle of Troy. We can use external sources to verify things like locations, armor, even battle plans (roughly)...but none of us really think that Athena had a bit of anything to do with it.

I have no problem with "admitting" that Egypt exists, or that they had pharos or pyramids.

I believe the jury is still out on the shroud of Turin, and unless his mum had sown a name tag on it it proves nothing.

Read any James Bond book, it will mention Russia, and the USA. So how does that prove that Q exists?

Listen you muppet the bible is as factual as tales on King Arthur it is a collection of bronze age myths and you are making some very foolish comments that make you seem ignorant and childish. Christianity became a Roman religion the Romans merged pagan and christian religions to have one religion for Rome. The church can`t even agree on if Jesus had a son, brothers and sisters. Educate yourself before attacking people who use logic and reason. Ps here is something in the Bible you can read http://www.evilbible.com/

The Shroud of Turin is a hoax.

There is no good evidence for The Flood.

There is no good evidence for The Exodus.

There is no good evidence that the world is 6,000 years old.

I suspect that there are historical facts in the bible but I won't go there to find historical information.
