Mushrooms contain a high percentage of water. They make spores instead of seeds for reproduction. They take nutrients from organic matter which is composed of a lot of decaying plant matter, so in a way you could say that they eat plants. Mushrooms will die to become organic matter and humus and become a part of the soil. All plants eventually help make soil.
Plants are different from animals in a lot of ways. For one they are anchored in the ground by their roots and can't move from place to place like animals. Their biggest differences is that plants make their own food through photosynthesis. All animal life is dependant on plants for their food, either directly or indirectly. Without plants there would be no life. Animals use oxygen and make carbon dioxide.. Plants use carbon dioxide and make oxygen. All plants and animals are made of cells. All plants need air to live. All plants both live in a habitat and help create the habitat that they live in.

Q.1) Do mushrooms store water?

A-- The mushroom body has plenty of water as the water content of every cell of that fungus is very high ( This is common for all fungi) . One Kilogram(1000grams) of freshly cut edible mushroom like Oyster mushroom , when oven dried , is reduced to 100grams. That means about 90% water is in its body!

But that cannot be called storage of water as all the living cells in plants and animals contain plenty of water .
Our own Brain is over 80% water!!And Blood (which is also a tissue ) Is over 90% water. Even then when we are dehydrated or feel thirsty water from brain or blood is not coming to the rescue of the body ; we have to drink water or get saline solution.

There are specially adapted plants that have special mechanism to store water . Such plants are found in deserts and called succulents or succulent xerophytes ( Also called fleshy plants ) Opuntia and other cacti and Aloe are the best examples .

So mushrooms have no capacity to store water .

Q.2) Do Mushrooms make seeds ?

A.-- Here again the answer is no . Only Gymnosperms (

Conifers like Pinus and its allies as well as Cycads AND

Angiosperms like Apple ,pear , Mango and the likes produce

seeds. No other group of plants has that capacity.

Q.3 ) Do mushrooms eat plants ?

A.-- No they do not eat plants .
They are saprophytes or decomposers and derive the nourishment from dead organic matter in the soil. ( Major poetion of the Mushroom body is underground ! What we see ,and eat ,if possible is only the' fruiting ' or spore producing part.

Q. 4 ) Do they make soil ?

A--Yes and No .

Yes because when the mushroom body decomposes , it adds humus or organic matter to the soil.

No because . Soil as we know is a complex matter it contains soil and mineral particles as well. These are not made by mushrooms.
