Moses was a a reluctant leader. He did not believe he could perform the task, nor did he feel he should have to perform it.
I'm not sure of the significance of his life in the present day - we have no reluctant leaders in the world today - Moses made mistakes and God was displeased with him at times.
Most of the World leaders today should look to Moses as an example - maybe we wouldn't have so much killing.

Moses is the central human figure in the foundation of the Jewish faith. As their scriptures have it, Moses was chosen by G-d as an instrument to free and remove Hebrew slaves from their masters in Egypt, lead them to a promised land of their own, and provide them with divine laws for living a holy life. Without Moses there would have been no Judaism (or Christianity, or Islam).

The Prophet Moses was most significant in being the impetus in taking his people out of bondage in Egypt and taking from God the Ten Commandments that are still viable today.

He stripped polytheism from the Hebrews, streamlining their faith so they could survive in the desert. Maximum social confomity was needed, in that instance, since the Hebrews had been slaves. They didn't know how to survive in the bloody desert! They were used to being fed, sheltered, and having the law enforeced by the Eqyptians. Moses worked some social engineering to give them some kind of chance in a hostile, resource poor environment that almost none of them had any skills to survive.

Well, I am a devoute Catholic. Moses led his people out of slavery from Egypt and performed miracles through God. He was one of the prophets and gave out the ten commandments. For today, these ten commandments make up a good chunck of the catholic faith. We have to follow these commandments that were given out by Moses through God. Hope this helps.
