What tribe are you a member of? I would assume tribal elders or other members of your tribe would be able to point you in the right direction.

Don't let nuage mysticism get in the way of your genealogical search. Our traditional people will tell you that there is no such thing as sprit totems, it's something that was made up by people who appropriate our culture (we refer to them as
"culture vultures"), who fantasize about the "mystical redman," and are out to make a buck on people's ignorance of a culture... but I can tell you it's nothing more than a bunch of bull.
Native spirituality has nothing to do with mysticism, it's about a good walk and each tribe (and within each tribe, even some clans) differs a bit on their beliefs.
And for the comment on peyote, unless you have a CDIB, are a member of a Federally recognized tribe, a member of The Native American Church, Inc., and have specific permission from your tribal Elders and the Roadmen of the church, not only would you be acting illegally in the ingestion of the sacrament, but you would be acting dishonorably towards the religion as well as the ancestors and the people.
If you want help tracing your Native ancestors then I can help you. If you want help finding a "spirit guide" or "totem," then all I can do is sincerly hope that you ignore whomever has been feeding you that line of crap and learn more about our ways from tribal Elders and traditonalists.
Peace,
Beki

I suggest studying the people who preceded you - your ancestors. One by one. Document and learn all you can about each and how they related to, and with, others in their family.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. If it's not the Holy Spirit, then it must be a demonic spirit and those guys cause all sorts of problems. Just read up on the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, etc. Don't look at their money. Look at their personal lives. Spirit guides are not friendly. Or if they start off friendly, they don't stay that way for long.
