Every couple of weeks, Jehovah's Witnesses wake us up EARLY on Saturday or Sunday morning. We live in a 2nd floor apartment where the doorbell is downstairs, and must go down to see who is ringing. I am not interested in what they have to say, and just want to sleep late on the weekends. Short of buying a shotgun, how do I put an end to this?

Frequently, Jehovah's Witnesses awaken me EARLY on Saturday or Sunday morning. We live in a 2nd floor apartment where the doorbell is downstairs, and so I must go down to see who is ringing or simply not answer the door. I am Jewish and not interested in changing my religion, and just want to be able to sleeping late on my day off from work. I don't want to be rude, but I'm fed up with this.

Ask them to put you on the "do not call" list.

Just ask them to put you on a 'do not call' list. But don't be surprised if they call every six months only because they don't know if a household has moved....it's just to maintain the records. Fireball, the 'NO SOLICITING' sign won't deter JWs from calling because we aren't selling anything. LOL some of these answers are hilariously silly. We've come across SO many different types of people at their homes that these suggestions won't scare us off from coming back. In fact, it's only showing how much they need to hear about the Bible and God's purposes.

The Scriptures clearly teach that the primary commission of the Christian congregation is to perform Christ's command to preach. There is no excuse for failing to pursue that work.

(Matthew 28:19,20) [Jesus said] Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you.

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching... You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

Yet Jehovah's Witnesses have no interest in annoying the householders in their territory. When a householder clearly requests that he receive no visits, his address is placed on a "Do Not Visit" list maintained by the local congregation. It seems that the only way a Jehovah's Witness could ignore a householder's request is if the original request was unclear, or possibly if the request were simply forgotten. Even very conscientious ministers sometimes make such mistakes.

It is also true that Jehovah's Witness congregations are distinguished by language assignment in addition to the typical geographic assignments; thus a neighborhood near Miami, for example, may be assigned to an English-language congregation and ALSO to a Spanish-language congregation. The communication between the two (or more) congregations may not be perfect.

Perhaps the best way for a late sleeper such as this questioner to assure his slumber is to give his would-be visitor (who is actually standing at his door) an ALTERNATIVE in the moment before he knocks. Jehovah's Witnesses are very respectful of a clear conspicuous note such as:
"Night owl sleeping. Please NO KNOCK or doorbell until after 3:pm"

Why don't you take the approach on your OWN by simply telling them 'you are not interested'.

After all, they are not there to force their message on others. But I can tell you why they keeping coming. Simply because the message that the Witnesses proclaim involves the lives of people; they want to be careful to miss no one. (Zeph. 2:2, 3) Their calls are motivated by love—first for God, also for their neighbor.

In fact, Jesus foretold for our day this work: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” He also instructed his followers: “Go . . . and make disciples of people of all the nations.”—Matt. 24:14; 28:19.
Hence, when Jesus sent out his early disciples, he directed them to go to the homes of the people. (Matt. 10:7, 11-13) The apostle Paul said regarding his ministry: “I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house.”—Acts 20:20, 21; see also Acts 5:42.

We [Jehovah's Witnesses] call for spiritually hungry persons. Jesus said: “Look! I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into his house and take the evening meal with him and he with me.”
So when Jehovah’s witnesses stand at your door and knock remember Jesus’ words to his witnesses: “He that receives you receives me also.”

The easiest, best thing you can do, is to put a "No Solicitors" or a "No Jehovah's Witnesses" sign on your gate or front door. That is as straightforeward as it can get!

If you want to get BLACKLISTED by the group, so you will NEVER be visited by any members again, try this:

1. Aquire and read well some anti-JW material, detailing why their faith is not considered Orthodox Christianity (it is considered a heterodox teaching!). Keep a pile of it handy.

2. The next time they ring your doorbell, INVITE THEM IN. Sit down with the missionaries, and share your new knowledge of their teachings. Encourage them to repent and accept Orthodox Christianity. Be very loving when you do this, be sincere, be enthusiastic!

One good session of this will probably do the job. It works well on the Mormons too!

We have been blacklisted for almost 15 years now.

Tell them in a firm manner (not yelling but not meek either, find that balance) the following:
"I demand that you put me on your do not call list. And please let your elders know that if any more representatives from your religon come by here again I will be contact the police to have you removed from the property."

The do not call list is a list means that your house is noted down. Then when they are out witnessing (door knocking) they skip your house and move on to the next one. The elders are the holy rollers in their congregations. Like a pastor or a priest.

Dump icy water on them from your window.

Kidding. (Mostly...)

Get a "No Soliciting" sticker from your county and stick it next to your mailbox. When they solicit your apartment, either stick your head out the window and yell this at them, or go down stairs and tell them--"We do not answer the door to solicitors anymore. If this happens again, I will be forced to involve the police. Have a good day." and shut the door.

OR put tape over your doorbell with "Out of Order" on it. Just make sure your friends know the truth.

Everyone, all your rude and violent methods are not necessary.

Either don't answer, or ask to be put on a "do not call" list. You may consider a "no solicitors" sign, although since we don't sell any of our literature (completely free) it is not applicable in all areas and varies from city to city.

Homeowners may put up a "no trespassing" sign that we respect since it is the law of the land.

We do not wish to disturb people and do not mind bidding you a polite "have a nice day."

I am not sure, perhaps you can make a request with the local kingdom hall. If they are this frequent, there is probably a kingdom hall within blocks of your apartment. I have the same problem. I am going to put this question on my watch list.

A bucket of water will do the trick. Or maybe a super soaker.
Or switch of the bell until you're awake.
I once heard a story about some apartment flat where everybody got bugged by those people all the time, so a couple of women decided to open the door nude when these suckers were coming again. It helped, they have never been back as far as I know.
Or start masturbating while they are trying to tell their story, while you are crying load: Jesus, Jesus!!!

I am not sure if you can stop them from coming, but you might throw this argument at them to frustrate them.

Ask to see their Bible. Look it over and ask if they believe it is a central matter of faith to accept the 27 books of the New Testament as infallible and canonical. They will of course say yes.

Then tell them that this is wonderful! Tell them about the Council of Rome in 382 AD which confirmed the 27 books of the New Testament to be canonical. Congratulate them for their great faith in adhering to this ancient council as infallible.

Then you can proceed to tell them that the bishops who ratified this canon vehemently believed in the consubstantial nature of Christ with the Father (basically that Jesus and God the Father are the same God). Tell them that the doctrine of the trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) was strictly adhered to and that if these Jehovah's Witnesses believe in the infallibility of that council, then they must adhere to the infallibility of the doctrine of the trinity.

Obviously, these doctrines smash violently against their beliefs, but don't tell them that.

Congratulate them on their new-found faith in the Catholic Church!
