They do not believe in using them in their services because it doesn't say in the new testiment that you can use it.

Their argument proves way too much. This is basically their arument:

1. If the new testament doesn't say that you can do something, then you can't do it.
2. The new testament doesn't say you can use musical instruments in church services.
3. Therefore, you can't use musical instruments in church services.

The problem is with the first premise. If the first premise is true, then there are lots of things we can't do: use the bathroom, drive a car, pick our noses, play chess, ride a bike, wear glasses, do the hokey pokey, talk on the phone, play on the internet, watch movies, take a shower, play the guitar, etc. If any of these things are permissible, then the first premise is not true. And if the first premise is not true, then the argument fails.

I am not a member of the Church of Christ, but as a Jehovah's Witness I can tell you that we sing songs at the beginning and end of some of our meetings. There is no choir and I definitely wouldn't classify it as gospel music, since we use our own melodies, but we do use instrumental music.

The book of Psalms is literally composed of hundreds of small poems and songs dedicated to God. King David was a skilled musician and as writer of most of the Psalms, would have used music to accompany them.

So really, I don't see any problem with musical instruments being used to praise God in song :0)

Think about it.....what would be the harm of using musical instruments?? I would seriously consider leaving any church that would have restrictions like that. What are they going to do next, tell you what type of clothes to wear? Who you can talk to? What to eat?

Any organization that would ban musical instruments (where in the bible, does it say that anyways????) must be controlling. I wouldn't walk away from a church like that...I would run!!!!

We are no longer under the Old Law. When Christ died on the cross he took that out of the way. We live under the new testament law and we try to do things as they are recorded in the Bible. Since there isn't any example of musical instruments used in worship in the new testament we don't use them. We are told to sing and make melody in our hearts. That's what we do.

I believe that we are right in this. We believe in speaking when the bible speaks and being silent where the bible is silent. It is not authorized in the New Testament, in the examples of worship in the new testament musical instruments were not mentioned. It was not authorized. Musical instruments were only mentioned in the Old Testament which is for our learning.

My personal belief is that people will only come to church for the music and not to worship God. God does not want anything to disrupt our worship of Him.

Hopefully most CoC's dont actually SAY it is wrong, they just dont do it out of tradition.

I prefer the sound of acapella music when i am worshipping.

I do have older relatives that feel musical instruments are not ok, but then they get in their cars and turn on the radio???

It also doesn't say you can't. I respect their choice not to use instruments. Our church uses them and I don't think that either is necessarily right or wrong. The Old testament is full of references to musical instruments, especially the Psalms.

They are wrong.

And much of the Bible notes the use of music in worship. Jesus himself with the disciples "sang a Hymn" and went out to the Mount of Olives. Paul writes that we are to sing...

As another observation, the New Testament doesn't say to meet in buildings designated as churches, it doesn't say to have or do all sorts of stuff that the Church of Christ does....

Jesus never used a telephone, rode a plane, used a sound system.... and so on....

It does not say you cannot use them either.

No. I was raised in the CofC, and went to a conservative non-instrumental CofC university. I have also read an entire scholarly book that says we should not use instruments.

If you have questions/comments on why I believe the answer is no, feel free to EMAIL me.

Maybe. Atleast it's safe. It's certainly not wrong NOT to use instruments during worship.
Perhaps entaintainment CAN classify as worship to God in His sight.
I personally prefer not to have bands and orchestras performing during worship. It's a distraction to me. I prefer the meaningful words that can be lifted up in praise to God during the time of worship to God.
I listen and enjoy several different kinds of music outside of my worship.
But people are allowed to do whatever they want. So have at it.
