I'm so sick of seeing, "Christians, please explain this!" or "Athiests, if there is no God then why..." or even "JESSSUS IS THE TRUE LORD! BELEIVE IN HIM OR I WILL HIT YOU WITH A BRICK!"

All the religons (that I'm aware of) can be boiled down to the Golden Rule. Treat others as you would wish to be treated, or even simpler: Treat people better. Try your best to be a good person.

So why do we need to argue over which one is right, if they all basically teach the same thing?

Just be friggin nice to people! And all you atheists and Christians who try to push your beleifs on other people, do you know how friggin annying that is? For the Christians, if you see that it makes us angry to have our own beleifs disrespected and challenged, why do you continue to do it? IS THAT THE GOLDEN F/CKING RULE? IS THAT BEING NICE?
I understand all you kids have found somthing wonderful and you want to share it with the world, but just don't.

Well as long as christians see the need to affect legislature to try and restrict other people's freedoms based on their own silly beliefs (there is a growing christian movement to ban birth control for instance), try to prohibit the most promising field of biology (stem cell research) due only to ignorance and outdated metaphysical dogma, and continue to spread lies and distortions about science (especially evolution) then it's important to challenge them.

>> "guess what! the golden rule was a Biblical statement, by Jesus, and no, a lot of other religions do not follow it."

Actually, the golden rule existed for thousands of years before Jesus or the bible... It can be found being said by pagan saviors and philosophies as far back as 2400 BC. The Egyptians used it, it's in the writings of Confucius as well as the Tao, and so on. It was a very old idea by the time Jesus was supposed to have come around.

The Golden rule is not what makes people Christians. I understand your frustration, but part of what is going on here is clairification of what the Bible really says, and what it's talking about. Jesus introduced something referred to as the Golden Rule, but there are many more things that he talked about like the way to make peace with God.

So perhaps you might want to differentiate between the squabbling, and the debate. I think it would help you to see what's really going on. ( ;

guess what! the golden rule was a Biblical statement, by Jesus, and no, a lot of other religions do not follow it.

that rule is a double command: treat yourself good, treat other good. many Hindus for example follow the "take blessings from the preists" rules, and of course, everyone treats themself slightly differently. Some people say "don't bother me, and I won't bother you" and that's their 'golden rule', while others say 'can't we all help eachother'. Me, I say "even if you're a jerk, I'll help you, especially so I don't go down to your level".

Christians are the majority faith, at this time, and they're pushy and judgmental. That's why them Atheists harrass them. If we were in India, the Atheist might challenge Hindu beliefs. It's constantly like that, in this forum. The constant stream of new faces only fuels what is already happening. It represents the conflict in our wider society, I'm sure. This is like the Greek forums where everyone can show up and argue anything from the trivial to the 'important'. If the Internet is the Great Library of the Information Age, then this is the Philosopher's Forum. Besides, this is FUN, and addicting.

You have a right to be upset, all people want to do is just reach out to helping and showing others there is still hope and love. There is love because there is a God, I don't want to shove religion up no ones throat. I like to help people that want to be helped, sometimes don't ask and want the help, because there is no hope in some people out there or just don't understand. As a Christian, God is not about religion or cult, he is about love and fellowship, it is called wanting just to be your friend to help you with your need's, but he has his reason why timing is important.

You have everything out there good christians, bad christians, but who am I to judge, please try not to get a bad taste of Christianity, just learn to respect if you want it back in return, dont contradict yourself, and become upset.

Let me tell you it is not an easy thing to want to walk with God. Oh I should not tell you anything, I must be careful, but I am open minded for criticism, and it helps me to better myself. You have the power not to let anything bother you, dont open the window of opportunity to allow anything get to you. Because I am no one to judge, you know how you feel to want to do something about it. A good tip learn to ignore, or just tell the person that bothers you, to plese go away and your not interested. But don't worry about how Christians work, go about your business, and let others want the relationship with God. I agree be nice, a word that is hard for almost to many people to learn the true meaning of it...I don't take orders from anyone but my Lord, so have a great day, and stay happy for your own good, it is actually good for your health...Stay honest keeping it real...

In our world we don't use sweres but i do agree with you we should try to treat other people better and not fight with each other about different religions and all that but try not to make the same mistake as we did in the 1700's-1800's.Alright?It really hurts people when you play and tolerate with them.It feels like you've lost your family and a really heartache.^-^

Most religions can not be boiled down the the golden rule.

Why talk about it? Because its called the quest for truth and the quest to understand people's point of view. I find it exciting!

Religion is a personal choice, I don't like it when people try to convert you. I also don't like that people do all these things you say they do. I agree.
