From what I have read thus far, most people are right on about denominations- I think there are a lot of reasons sects develop. When the original apostles went about preaching and in time, the masses became Christians, the Emperor Constantine converted Rome to Christianity.

Eventually "bishops" came about to govern the congregations and were appointed by the Emperor. These bishops held a great amount of power and when you have absolute power, corruption will arise. The bishops held a person's salvation in their hands, but there was murmuring among the congregations. Eventually what we now know today as Catholicism came about and with all doctrines the bishops were "developing" (how much $ had to be donated so as not to go to hell, etc), there were people who objected.

Tanja was on the right path. Martin Luther did object to various practices and this started the Christian Revolution- Protestants. He branched out- Lutherans were born and from there, eventually those that believed people should be fully immersed in water to be baptized started their own sect- Baptists. So on and so forth...

It is actually very interesting when you start researching not only Denominations, but also holidays. Everything has a much different origin than I ever would have believed when I started looking everything up almost 2 years ago... and I am still learning new things all the time!

Christianity is not based on a single text.
It is a common misconception that Christianity was founded on the Bible - but that is not true. Until just a few centuries ago, Christianity was based on tradition, and the Bible was used as a proof text to confirm and/or elucidate pre-existing doctrines. Even at its inception, Christianity consisted of over 40 independent "Churches," or congregations.

Because the "Christians" changed the bible the way they want. When there was a rule or something there that they didnt want, they would change it. For example, in the bible it said that there would be a prophet after Jesus named Muhammed. Ofcourse, Christianity would be destroyed and Islam would be proven correct becuase of this. So they completely got rid of that part and changed the bible. There is still a bible with that event written. Christians dont believe int it though.

The denominational division because of disagreements about doctrine. Some think they are more righteous than others. The divisions happen because of self-righteousness and critical judging of others.

Also, some don't accept the whole bible, especially the gifts of the Holy Spirit for the Church today. Some take away from Gods Saving Grace through Jesus Christ redeeming blood. These aren't true Christian Churches. Because you can't blaspheme God & Gods gifts & get saved. It is only pride that accuses those who receive Gods Gifts. The Holy Spirit is active & well in the Church of Christ today. And is the seal of everyone truly born of God.

People need to realize that it is Jesus Christ who makes us His Rigteousness & all born of God are made into His Righteousness. So, when God looks at us who are redeemed, God sees the Righteousness of Jesus Christ.

All churches should learn who we are in Christ as the Church of Christ.

Origionally christianity was catholicism, and it was, for the most part, one faith. until Luther came up with the 95 thesis, or rather, the 95 problems he had with the catholic church. unfortunatly, the catholic church didn't like what he had to say, and didn't want to change. and so, Protestantism was born.
Protestantism is what you consider "Christianity". from the baptists, to the mormons, Pentecostals to the seventh day adventsts. now the very term Protestant means to protest, a protester. what does that mean?
it means exactly what you see. this church has a arguement over weither or not speaking in tounges is still 'real'. therefore, this half of the church splits off and forms their own church, because they can't possibly stick around with all those people that actually believe in that 'garbage'.
Christianity gets caught up in little feuds, and can't agree to disagree, so they decide to just split and form their own denomination.

a good example of this, is a church i attended as a teenager. the weekly attendance was about seven people. when this church used to have hundreds. why? because they were considering starting up a christian school. some wanted it, some didn't. the church split over the debate, and attendance fell to the measley seven.

People interpret the teachings to mean what they want them to mean, thus creating many different divisions. There's one for everybody! If you really want to find out the true teachings of Christianity, just read the Bible with an open mind. They're all still there, as pure and clear as ever.
