A colleague today was telling another guy that these things were dangerous, that the planchette can spin by itself, ad even went so far as to say someone got "thrown" through the air by evil spirits when using one. What is the real truth about this ? Has anyone done any weird youtube videos or anything that shows strange stuff or is this all an urban myth?

I have played with ouija boards many times. Most of the time it is simply fun...people are making the planchette move even without realizing they are doing it. You can do something similiar using a pendant on a chain...let it hang down while you pinch it with your fingers. Think about making it sway in a certain direction and poof..it will!

That being said, I have had a few uncomfortable encounters when the board was used in a house said to be "haunted". The planchette shot off the board on one occassion. At another, the answers were spelled out in another language...which turned out to be Portuguese (we wrote it down to try and figure it out). No one in the group was able to speak Portugese or French and once we translated the words, they answered the asked questions. It was a very strange and scarey experience.

All in all, I see ouija as fairly harmless...although I take certain precautions if Iplay now. I remove all my jewelry, play is safe areas (no graveyards or haunted houses anymore) and keep to basic, safe questions. Do I believe in the afterlife and the spirt world? Definitely. So I tend to behave accordingly and not mess with anything I wouldn't want to show up on the off chance it is real!

The ouija is essentially a tool, and like any tool it can become hazardous in the hands of the ill-experienced or uninformed. I've never attempted communication with the Parker Bros. variant, but I suspect that most "mediumistic" experiences with that product are in direct consequence to the ideomotor effect. These people purchase the board and, being determined to create some experience from it, produce all sorts of unconscious motions that spell out words and phrases significant to them. The ouija, in that respect, is transformed into nothing more than a window to one's own subconscious thoughts and preoccupations.

True, experienced, and informed use of the ouija is an entirely different matter though. To use the board to its full potential, one must open him/herself up to another plane of existence while simultaneously projecting amiable, warm emotion. Failure to do the latter will result in contact between the medium and malignant entities. Since most people will bring less than benign sentiments with them when trying to use the board, cases of evoked entities wreaking havoc will continue to be commonplace.

I personally try to stray away from the board as much as possible. When I first dabbled with it, I experienced all sorts of undesirable consequences inclusive of bouts of depression (resulting from the influence of negative entities) and--after making the ULTIMATE mistake: asking the entity to prove its existence--physical manifestations of the entity's will (i.e. objects being toppled with no apparent force applied to them). So, if I require any external input in my studies, I generally rely on evocations with less potential for harm...or, at the far end of the spectrum, the protocols mentioned in the Goetia.

Ouija boards are EXTREMELY dangerous. Demons are real and you are inviting them via that board. If you have a ouija board, get rid of it now! If you're planning on getting one, decline! Personally, I think they're worthless because I already have the Holy Spirit inside of me. I also think that "The Exorcist" gave ouija boards negative publicity. If you dare, watch The Exorcist. It was based on a true story.

I even have performed with ouija boards many situations. lots of the time it incredibly is in simple terms exciting...everybody is making the planchette circulate in spite of out understanding they're doing it. you're able to do something similiar utilising a pendant on a set...enable it hold close down mutually as you pinch it with your hands. think of roughly making it sway in a definite course and poof..it is going to! That being reported, I even have had some uncomfortable encounters whilst the board grew to become into utilized in a house reported to be "haunted". The planchette shot off the board on one occassion. At yet another, the solutions have been spelled out in yet another language...which grew to become out to be Portuguese (we wrote it right down to attempt and parent it out). no one interior the gang grew to become into waiting to communicate Portugese or French and as quickly as we translated the words, they replied the asked questions. It grew to become into an quite unusual and scarey adventure. All in all, I see ouija as quite danger unfastened...in spite of the shown fact that I take particular precautions if Iplay now. I eliminate all my rings, play is risk-free aspects (no graveyards or haunted properties anymore) and shop to subject-unfastened, risk-free questions. Do i think interior the afterlife and the spirt international? surely. So I even tend to act to that end and not mess with something i does not want to happen on the off probability it incredibly is genuine!

No, they can't. It's called the ideomotor effect. Even though you don't know you're moving it, you are. It's easily testable - just blindfold the person, rotate the board, and see if you still hear messages from spirits. Yes? This guy will give you a million bucks for showing him. http://www.randi.org No? Then it was all in your head.

Both. It is of course just a toy and can in no way contact dead spirits or ghosts (because they don't exist) but can be harm full to the people using it if they believe. I know both my brother and sister used to mess themselves up playing with them as teenagers. They are best just left alone I believe.

They are dangerous and I would highly recommend that you don't play with it. Sometimes young people think it is fun to get involved with the occult but it is not fun and can follow you for years.

I think that peoples imaginations can run kind of wild with those things. However, unless you hit someone over the head with a particularly heavy board; then the answer is that they are pretty harmless.
