I wish it was an organization that could be discussed in such light hearted concepts.
Unfortunately, it is far from being absurd, but actually a terribly evil force, that for 2,000 years is almost single handedly responsible for making the world a living hell for hundreds of millions, in the deaths of countless innocents and much of the problems we have today.
See:
The Almanac of Evil for a sample of its crimes against humanity:
http://one-faith-of-god.org/final_testament/end_of_darkness/evil/evil_0160.htm
Of course, good people who are Catholic feel they must either defend this evil, ignore it, change the subject, or attack the person who dares to raise it.
But it must be addressed, for it represents nothing less than the true history of humanity and why we find ourselves where we are.
Peace, the end of poverty will not come to this Earth until good people are honest enough to see the Vatican for what it is and has always been.

I am Catholic so I totally disagree.
As a religion Catholicism tends to emphasize personal responsibility and a strong sense of right and wrong. Guilt is supposed to happen when someone knowingly does wrong (sins). This is your conscience telling you to go back to God.
There would be something wrong with you if you sinned and did not feel guilty. Sociopaths feel no guilt.
However feeling guilty after God has forgiven you is not healthy or Catholic.
The guilt a Catholic feels is really no different that that of a Protestant, an Atheist, a pagan or other believer. The term "Catholic Guilt" is a stereotype.
With love in Christ.

i think you'll find those problems in all walks of life. is Catholicism absurd? a definite no on that one. if you knew the catholic church properly you would see that it is the church Christ gave us and has the fullness of truth. has the church had its errors? yes but at its heart the church is Christs and strife's to make the world a better place with all its missionaries, hospitals etc.......it also draws children and adults alike to a relationship and knowledge of god found nowhere else. the church at its core teaches what Christ taught and that is to love one another as we love ourselves. the church brings children closer to god from birth through baptism and continues to do so thereafter. some sites you may learn more about the catholic faith....

No they don't play on the guilt mind game and it is not full of dual standards and hypocrisy. Now there might be individuals who have dealt with their faith that way, but that is true of any faith.
If you are an exCatholic, it might be your parents or some authority figure did not deal with you correctly.
The Cross is always a folly to those who don't believe.

i dont agree, i was brought up within the Catholic fait and it gave me standards, and morals. Life is full of dual standards and hypocrasy, so do not blame it on Catholicism. also the guilt mind game is a card played by everyone, it can be played by the parents towards the kids or vice versa, the african american community with slavery, the native american community with their land and the lsit goes on.
if you want to blame someone, blame society and the people living in it. dont blame Catholicism which is a guide and discipline to God.

Compared to what?
Most religions seem pretty absurd if you look at them. my problem with your question is this you could ask similar questions about the jews or muslim faiths and be called a bigot. Why is it ok to take the piss out of catholics?

No, I don't think Catholicism is absurd. Teaching children to love God and their neighbour sounds like a good thing to me.

Indeed. It's full of double standards! How can you bring up responsible, well balanced adults on that!
