Can not people see through the smoke and mirrors of religion? You have to subvert man's free will to control him. This can be done through teachings such as religions or you can just drug a man. Either way you get a none thinking man that will give up his freedom to those wanting to control him.
Relions have made man's ability to think and reason evil from the start of biblical stories which is evil. Wake up people.

The sin was disobedience to God. Eating the fruit it's self had no sin in it, it was the fact that Adam & Eve CHOSE to disobey the only commandment that God had placed on them.
And further more the sin of disobedience only came about because of pride. The serpent (Satan) promised Eve that they could be gods (same sin that got him removed from the Presence of God) and strangely enough, there is a group of people today that claim to be a christian church that are still accepting that lie, they think that they can become gods. How sad that they would believe a lie and be damned.
So, as for original sin, I dont believe original sin started in the hearts of humans, it began in the one who was once the covering cherub, the bright and morning star, it began before the garden.

In Christian doctrine, the condition or state of sin into which each human being is born, or its origin in Adam's disobedience to God when he ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. His guilt was transmitted to his descendants. Though Genesis describes Adam's sufferings as the consequence of his disobedience, it does not make Adam's sin hereditary. The main scriptural basis of the doctrine is found in the writings of St. Paul; St. Augustine helped make humanity's sinful nature a central element in orthodox Christian theology. Medieval theologians continued to explore the issue, and Thomas Aquinas offered a more optimistic view of human nature in his teachings on original sin than had Augustine. Martin Luther and John Calvin accepted a more Augustinian understanding, and modern evolutionary theory and biblical source criticism raised new challenges for the definition of original sin.

The sin was disobedience, not independent thought. God said don't eat of that particular tree, or you will die. The "serpent" said "nooooo, surely you won't die, you'll live forever and be like God".
Eve could've thought about it all day (or for a million years, who knows how long they were there?) but in actually disobeying God, she sinned.

The Genesis story is psychological metaphor about shame, unrelated to sex. We arrive here in an innocent state (at one with the divine good) and are all persuaded through experiences with others (ego/snake) to start believing in rules of good and bad as the way to be powerful. That duality is the cause of shame, which is a kind of psychological "glue" that perpetuates miserable experiences that are shame related. Because reality is synchronized with mind, the only way back into the garden/heaven (tree of eternal "aliveness") is guarded by the cherubim with the flaming sword. The true/innocent Self protects us from eternally living in the shamed ego experience. Purification is required to return to that state of permanent bliss.

Yeah. You're missing something. But you only get that section of the bible AFTER confirmation...
Disobedience is the end all be all big sin. Obedience to the Lord is an ongoing thread throughout the bible. No matter WHICH version you're reading.
Unless it's one of those "build your own bible" versions that allows you to take out all the stuff you don't like.

The original sin was believing the temptation that there is a life apart from God who is Life, and opening the doors to evil and then calling evil good. The human dream is not of God. If it were, then God would know sin and death, and He would be subject to them.

The original sin is just what you said simple disobedience, nothing more nothing less.Had really nothing to do with fruit, it all had to do with believing the lies of Satan and not listening to what God had said and thinking they were above God.

It seems to be a concept that Christians cling to as a justification for their own religion, to be "saved" from a universal "sin."
Personally, I like George Burns' take on the Adam and Eve thing in "Oh, God!": that they were both just young teenagers and he was too hard on them. If he had it to do over....
