What keeps people like this from being suicidal? Especially if they do not have a family? I understand not fearing death, but to want to die that badly just disturbs me a little.
"Jesus conquered death and Hell for me so I have no fear of dying, and actually look forward to it. If I didn't still have my wife and children to take care of, I would be glad to go now, right this moment even while I am typing!
Eye has not seen nor ear heard nor has it ever entered into the heart of men the things that God has prepared for those that love HIm.
And there shall be no more pain, nor crying, nor sickness for the former things have all passed away.
And God shall be with them and shall be their God. Read all of Revelation Chapters 21 and 22. WOW! What a glorious existence beyond this life! Can't wait! "
(I'm betting someone will be offended by my question. If so, I apologize.)

Not really bothered by it... but it is sad that people totally disregard the gift they have right here... right now... LIFE... in the hopes of getting something better later. I don't see why anyone would give a person another gift after they disregarded the first gift they were given so freely. It's a shame... they obviously aren't getting anything out of life... which usually means they aren't putting anything into it either... they're just getting by, waiting for something better to come along to save them from the rut they put themselves in.

It's childish and moronic. Jesus provided a dramatic example that even your worst fear (i.e. "I'd die if that happened!) need NOT be feared. If physical death can be overcome, we need not stay in a perpetual hell of sickness, suffering, loneliness, worthlessness or whatever. We all are innately powerful (sons of God) and deserving of the experience of heaven (NOT after death) now. Sin is a sense of unfixableness, an unforgiveable error - like a child feels when they are shamed for a mistake. His example is that we all are forgiveable and transcending that learned ego belief system - that limits our power - can be accomplished. But its all or nothing. The ego has to be eliminated/dead for resurrection of the true Self and bliss. It's metaphor.

This is probably why suicide has long been considered a "mortal" sin.
In Philippians 1:21-26, Paul wrestles with the same dilemma: "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me."
Paul may have been dramatizing, but his "choice" was the more reasonable one, affirming that earthly life has a purpose and that doing the "work of God" outweighs taking personal shortcuts to "paradise". If heaven is all dessert, you still need to eat your vegetables here and now. It's good for the "body of Christ".

Yes - these are the very types of people who are currently running our Govt and who fail to pay attention to global warming issues, because in their minds, the End is Near. Its a great excuse to use all the natural resources now - screw the future: Jesus is coming to save us!!!
I could get behind that too - if He had actually returned back when he said he would (within the lifetimes of his contenporaries, which is FAILED to do) and back during every other period in time when people have claimed this nonsense (1836, 1945, 1999, 2000)...

Yes, actually. I do find it to be a disturbing philosophy. I am aware (or at least I hope) that most Christians do not think like this. But Christianity does have a large focus on this perfect afterlife with no pain and suffering that seems to go along with life on earth.

I guess nobody realizes we don't want to die, really. but looking forward to everlasting life in Heaven. It even scares me a little-knowing there is an afterlife. Sometimes I just wish when we do die, we are just dead. But I know that isn't true. Christians look at it like "going home". Of course if you are an Atheist or not even Christian, you are not going to understand that.

What keeps them from being suicidal is the belief, in that religion, that you cannot go to heaven if you commit suicide. That is most likely the only thing that prevents a lot of them from rushing off to join their god.
I can't imagine wanting to hurry up and die.

Revelation 21:3,4
With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4Â And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
Interestingly this is a promise that will be realized by MANKIND, an end to death will happen here on earth!

I am definitely a bit troubled by this sort of mentality...
But I am much more troubled seeing it in the muslim world, with the common variation: "God will reward my death if I kill infidels. He will give me 72 virgins and let my family and friends into heaven. I want to kill myself and infidels right now!"
A guy who would be glad to die isn't so bad as architects and engineers who want to die by flying planes into buildings...

I always figure the person has had a bad life and has a depressed attitude. I feel sorry for them, for I am enjoying my life and don't want to go until the last possible moment lol.
