It's not that were against the idea of a supreme being, it's that we don't believe in a supreme being. It's the religionists that we prevail against, not any form of ultimate reality.

What would interesting to me would be, what exactly are the qualities of this supreme being?

I am against the idea of a supreme being as Christians define it, but I am for the idea of something like the Tao. And I think it's really interesting that people argue back and forth about deities without being clear on the definition of what they're fighting over.

I would be dissapointed. Not because I'm some huge religiosu person (well, kinda, but that's not why). Christianity, Islam, and Jewism have taken belief and turned it into such a negative thing. They (as a general, historic reference) kill ppl in the name of "God" and see others beneath them. In TRUE belief it is about wanting to be connected with something and knowing that the world does not revolve around you. It is so much bigger than you and it can teach you tolerance and GOOD habits, rather than bad. For years I did not believe in the God or the Goddess (by the way, I'm a pagan if you haven't noticed) and I'm still a little iffy, but to me it is a way to be a better person and try to help our planet instead of detroy it. If you take away everyone's belief in "God" or whomever they believe in then they will be lost and most likely won't belive you and we could get so many more wars. When they finally realize they have been wrong for so long, to them their entire lives have been a lie and this could cause a world-wide depression. i sound like an extremeist, but think about it. So many people's lives relove around their religion. Their belief determines who they are. Take that away and for a long time we will have people who will be lost.

Well don't worry, you'll all soon get your proof. However, the proof is unfortunately going to be the last thing you see. The proof enough is in the warnings and how they are coming about right now. Right now all the problems and disasters the bible foretold atheists are blaming or saying its just man, global warming, etc.

Explain this though, how could MAN, who were farmers and most damage they could do is destroy their own structures, even think of the possibility of them being able to actually ruin the earth, etc.

The bible didn't say HOW these events would happen, it just said they would, and they are right now. This is your last warning. There WILL be supernatural events to follow, which you won't be able to explain, but by that time its too late.

It depends.

If it was some deistic type god that had no interest in the lives of men, then That would be fine.

If it was a Christian type omnipotent, omnicognicent god that had specifically created us and the world, that would be depressing. To think that the current world situation had actually been planned to be like this, that a god who allegedly loves all of us could allow so much violence and murder in his name and just stand idly by.

It would sadden me that god has worse morals than I do.

I doubt that I would be ecstatic, but I would accept it as I accept any fact that has been scientifically demonstrated.

It depends on the nature of the supreme being.

If it turned out to be the Old Testament God, I don't know that I'd be ecstatic.

And just because a God may be proven to exist, that doesn't mean that there's life after death, heaven, etc.

If they could prove a supreme being that would be an exciting and amazing find.

Of course the only problem then would be: Which god is it?

It'd be good to know that death is not DEATH, but it would increase religious fanaticism, as every religion tried to claim God as THEIR god.

Here's what would happen:

First, we would demand that God hold a press conference accounting for his whereabouts on 9/11/01, at Virgina Tech, etc.

Second, we would demand that he create checks and balances for his supreme power.

Finally, we would *impeach God*.

On the plus side, some scientist would get a Nobel Prize.

:)

No. Some people need God to prevent them from going off of the deep end. Remove that, and you'll see society turn on its head instantly. Better to have an argument until the human condition has evolved beyond the need to believe in God.

I won't necessarily be ecstatic to find out there is a supreme being. I would definitely be interested and I would definitely adjust my point of view accordingly.

But I would not deny the evidence if it happened.

No.

If the God of the bible was proven to exist, I would no longer be an Atheist, true. But since this God is responsible for all the evils both described in the bible and throughout the world, I would then become an Anti- theist, and be forced to hunt him down and force him to recognize all his wrongs.

Or something like that.
