I guess I'm being a hypocrit. It's not the way people talk, Lord knows, I have a deep southern drawl and shorten many words, but you can't tell it when I write. I guess what concerns me is kids really think that's the way it's spelled. I never pronounce the g of ing on the end of words, but I don't write and spell the way I talk.

Well Enrique is right ... but add to this that in speech "th" is chganged into "d" if the previous letter is a vowel |&the following is a vowel also "we call this :an inter vocalic sound"
as in I wanna Dat t-shirt VS. I want that t-shirt. And I like milk chakes wiD apples VS she came with her friend .
Also notice that some dialects have the tendency to replace "th" with "d" as in NYC .
Hope it helps

Imagine if everyone spoke English the same way, all grammatically correct. It would be boring. Southerners and Northerners talk differently. If we all spoke original English, there would be a huge chunk of culture missing from both of them. "wit" and "dat" is black people's (from the hood or city) form of changing English to part of their culture. Regardless of how highly you think of culture.
