I heard that you should never put anything on a wound that you wouldn't put in your eye. What kind of salt solutions are there?

When I mentioned salt, I meant saline.

Clean it out good with water (use a mild soap only if you really need to), lightly blot it dry, preferrably with a paper towel so as not to spread germs, and put Neosporin or a similar product on it.
Whatever you do, DO NOT put peroxide on it. It damages the healthy tissue around the cut.

If he's too upset to have just his scrape washed, ask him to take a bath. I usually have lollipops on hand to take their mind off of the boo boo, too. After thoroughly washing the cut/scrape with warm water and soap, pat it dry. Apply a think film of anything to keep the band aid from sticking to the wound. Even if it's just vaseline on the cut, you want to be sure their cut doesn't get stuck to the band aid. Non-stick gauze pads are a great thing to have around because not all cuts and scrapes are small enough for a standard band aid. There is also "tape" that only sticks to itself and it's stretchy so you can easily wrap it around knees and elbows.
If it's a bloody cut, apply steady pressure for 8 minutes. If after 8 minutes the bleeding has not stopped you need to see a doctor, and sutures might be in order. The 8 minute rule is what my Dad taught us. He's a surgeon and managed to teach us at a pretty young age that anything still gushing after 8 minutes means you have to go for a ride to the ER.
I generally have Mr. Bubble for sensitive skin on hand so I can let them have a bubble bath and a lollipop after an inury. They're usually very cooperative once you mention candy AND bubbles. I also let them blow bubbles with bubble wands, too. So keep little bottles of bubbles that you can blow or they can blow in with your first aid kit, too.
Best of luck mama. Hope your son is okay! And if he is sore or swollen you can try some Infants or Childrens Advil for the pain and inflammation.

Good old soap and water. Dab the wound until it is reasonably clean and wrap or band aid it. Change bandage once or twice a day.
Some kids are highly allergic to an ingredient in Neosporen.
Using peroxide on a small child is cruel.

Wash the wound with cool water
Assess the "damage"....determine if it's severe enough to need stitches.
If not, pour hydrogen peroxide over cut to clean & disinfect;
Apply topical ointment such as Neosporin and bandage....children's bandages are especially appreciated by the little ones....
If stitches are needed, apply pressure and seek doctor's care.
Don't forget the most important remedy of all.....lots of TLC !!!!! If the wound is severe, keeping a calm, clear head about you is crucial to your child's comfort.

clean the wound well. you can use a product called Dermoplast. It is a spray. It numbs the area to help with the pain, and also is an antibiotic. After that, use neosporin, and a bandaid if necessary.

Depending on how deep it is. Rinse it off with water, then peroxide, apply neosporine if needed, and then give the cut some TLC. Works every time

I've never heard of that. I always wash it with soap and water. Then put neosporin and and band-aid on it. Then seal it with a kiss!

I just use water, straight away, to clean it (if anything). I only resort to bandaids when the child won't stop crying (usually it's my daughter).
