Definitely Laurelhurst, Alameda and Irvington in inner NE Portland. They are right in the middle of town but they are beautiful neighborhoods. Very safe and lots of older big houses. I lived near Laurelhurst so I used to jog through the neighborhood and admire the homes. They definitely have more of that East coast feel, many were built around 1920, if that's what you are looking for. I will attach a link with some example homes in those areas.

what city? if you are near portland...i would try West Linn, in the "Old Willamette" area. These houses are traditional. however oregon has a LOT of that nasty california influence from the mid 80s so you see lots of spit roof stuff. i would try smaller, older areas of town. i personally love old willamette because it's so safe, small, and even has the "main street." plus they hold the old fashioned fair there is the summers, and the little neighborhood parades..and it's just a nice place to be.

Oregon is a good sized state. Is there a specific area, region, or county you are considering? That would tremendously assist people in adequately answering your question.
