Is Risperdal a dopamine agonist? I take it for Bipolar and am currently decreasing it slowly so that I can conceive.. but my prolactin levels are high my Luteal phase is short because I am spotting (only 8 days). I was asking this question becuase I would like to start taking Vitex & B6 to help with this problem and it takes months to work but the Vitex says not to take if you are taking a dopamine agonist.

Any help appreciated!
Thanks!

No, it is a dopamine ANTagonist. It is thought to work by blocking the action of serotonin and dopamine in the brain.

Risperidone is a very strong dopamine blocker antagonist i.e., it inhibits functioning of postsynaptic dopamine receptors.

it is an agonist....lippincotts drug guide 2002...dont you think that you should seriously think about getting pregnant..Is this really a good thing to pass your bipolar state along to an innocent baby...it does run in families you know.
