Yes. Use Advantage or Frontline every 30 days without fail and switch products if the fleas become restistant to one product and you should have no problems after a short period of time. As soon as I started using these products faithfully on all my pets, all flea problems vanished.

Of course, first you have to bath the cat in a flea shampoo that will kill both live fleas and flea eggs. Brush the cat out and remove any live or dead fleas. Next you need to apply a flea and tick repellent (aka. front line, advantage, etc.) to your cat. Your best bet is to either visit or call your vet for advice on which flea treatment to use. Buying these things from your vet is always more expensive there are websites where you can compare the different products and varieties and purchase the one that suits your needs best. Personally I prefer a spray that I can brush into my cats fur and make sure the entire cat is protected. Many people like the treatment where you put a drop of medicine on the back of the neck once a month. What you use is up to you. If your cat goes in and out of the house it might also be a good idea to buy a flea collar to go along with its identification. If you are doing this your cat should not be getting fleas. If it is still getting them there could be a possibility that is picking them up from other sources like other unprotected pets inside the house or the house itself.

To all intents and purposes, yes they can. Some people say surely if you search them with a flea comb everyday you will find one flea even if it's dying! I would call that near as dammit to 100% flea free!
Anyway, a proper flea regime - 4 weekly use of Frontline or Revolution as well as treatment of your house should break the flea lifecycle and make you, your pet and your house flea-free.
River Hermit - oh dear, if this is the kind of flea treatment you've been using I'm not surprised you're unaware of how flea-free you can be! Shampoos and collars are pretty worthless and, as you said, sometimes dangerous. And as for Borax - eep!

Yes. If they are on proper flea prevention, and kept indoors, they will have little to no chance of having fleas.
My cat is 100% flea free.

Nope, nor can a dog or many other creatures..just gotta keep on brushing, combing &/or sprinkling carpets with borax ( 20 Mule Team in laundry secions ) bout once a week & vacuuming...to keep fleas under control ain't met a flea shampoo, collar or product yet that can kill them all or all the time...some are even more harmful then the fleas...fleas are 4 ever if you have pets ( tho Poodles & bald animals are less prone )..but things with fur, dogs, cats, rats, guinea pigs...all get fleas...Take Care :)

My cat is totally flea free. She is an indoor only cat. I am sure if she was an outdoor/indoor cat, she would have fleas even though we use frontline.
