I have two golden retreivers and they are crated when I am not there. For a while everything was great, they are both a year old now and they started chewing the floor to the crate, we have gone through three different floors now, and I am at my witts end. They have toys, they are taken for runs everyday, they finished teething months ago, I am out of ideas!

Bitter apple didn't work, neither did tobasco, chilli peppers or cayenne.

My vet suggested a spray called "bitter apple" that can be used on objects & dog's skin as well (my dog was constantly chewing his paw). It works pretty well!

Good luck.

Even though these dogs are a year old they are still puppies.
How long do these dogs have to stay in their crates during the day, 6-10-12 hours a day. Do you have puppy pads down for them??
Eight hours is a long time for a dog to be crated. The dogs may need to go potty and they do not want to go in their crate. I hope you have a crate for each dog! Golden Retreivers are big dogs!!
Do you use the plastic crates or the wire kennels. I have a wire kennel for my lab puppy. She would chew right through a plastic one if I had one. The floor is plastic but it is big enough for her she doesn't feel cramped.
Try leaving the TV on for the dogs. Dogs chew usually for two reasons. They are teething are you sure they are done?? They are bored?? If they are in their crates for every long I would say they are bored!!
I would be giving it some thought is the crates big enough for the dogs. I know I would have one for each dog. Put them beside each other if you want . That way they can keep each other company.
Maybe hard chew toys.

Good Luck!!

DON"T USE THE SPRAY! I found out a few months ago that there is a type of spray used for the same purpous made from cougar urine. The dogs think that a cougar marked their territory in the area you sprayed it so they won't go near what you sprayed. Bleh.

But, there might be a different kind. In fact, I bet there is. Just make sure you check the ingredients!!

Training your dog will be a huge part of your interaction with him for the first few months. Learn here https://tr.im/am6Cw
This includes housetraining, leash training, obedience training, socialization, and problem solving. In addition to providing your dog with needed skills, this time will also be a great opportunity for you to bond with him. Take the time to really get to know your pet while training him and a loving relationship will easily develop.

how long do you leave them in the crates a day. Goldens are very intelligent dogs and get bored easily. They need to be constently challenged and around people. Have you thought about doggy daycare. When you take the dog to daycare and pick them up on your way home.

the reason why they chew on stuff is because they get bored. you need to provide them with toys and chewies . some dogs do it cause they might suffer from sepration axity. =)

Two ideas. Use a metal floor.
See that they are left in a secure back yard.

They have spray you can buy that taste's nasty. It is totally harmless. You spray it on the floor and they don't bite or lick it. It isn't sticky either.
