I'm like you, I would have to believe in what we were fighting for. I am not a puppet just waiting for my strings to be pulled.

I would go to war for the reason that you and I could say our government was wrong and that people all over the world should have that same right. I tried to enlist after 9/11 but wasn't allowed in.
And to the first genius, Its a requirment to join the military in China, not an option like here.

Of course. Do you actually think you would be better at making the decisions of when and when not to go to war? With people like you in charge we never would of got out of the War of 1812. The world is not black and white, right and wrong.

I would have to believe that it was to preserve the sanctity of the USA Constitution and protect the homeland. Something that we don't have now, because we would be at war with Mexico and not Iraq.
The "War on Terror" is nothing more than a fear tactic to get the masses to do what the rulers want them to do. If you get p*ssed at me for saying this then it is your sub-conscience waking and fighting with what you want to believe. Nothing more than mind games.

If an armed force of foreign nationality lands on the continental 48, I'll pick up a couple of extra boxes of ammo and lend a hand....unofficially (I'd be just as likely to shoot my commanding officer if I joined the traditional military, free spirit that I am).

If every soldier has to decide on his own whether orders are right or wrong, you really don't have an effective army, do you?
You, as every soldier, should know going in that you're not always going to agree with the political or social reasons that you are sent into combat. But since you volunteer your services to your country - and take an oath to that effect - you are bound to go, whether you agree or not.
Of course, if you have no honor - if you lied when you took the oath - go ahead and judge EVERY order as to whether you agree with them, not just the big ones.

Knowing my government was wrong no I wouold not go to war. But so far my government hasn't been wrong so I enlisted twice, once in the Navy (1975) and once in the Massachusetts National Guard (1980).
