Everyone should be given a fair chance to adopt a child, there are so many children in need of a good home. If they pass a background check and show no signs of 'abuse', there's no reason they shouldn't be permitted to adopt a child.

What's with the silly attacks of people? Torture connected to adoption, because a child is impressionable? Just think how idiotic your question is -- and think about how dirt-poor families across America adopt (and bring in foster children) simply for the handouts/breaks/programs they can get, for the numbers of mouths under the roof. Choosing your poison -- even in the comic-book generalization of a faceless (assuming white, of course right?) 'fundamentalist' brainwashing kids to what? memorize the bible or some other horror you've got cooked-up in your dopey head... can you see that you're adding your own mindless prejudices? (Now, I'm no one's idea of a holy-roller... and some chicks have even called me a demon.. but, I certainly know that the bible & religion of many sorts is sure NOT the worse thing that can happen to a needy young child in America or anywhere across the globe. Spend some time in Africa some day, or Southeast Asia -- and tell people there about how your idea of Fundies adopting is a horror-story.) You rube.

Hmmm...you sure do think you know all there is to know about Fundy's, huh? Do you know ALL of them? I don't think so 'cause you don't know ME! I didn't raise my kids like what you suggested. I didn't scare them with hellfire unless they believed. I never forced them to believe as I do. They came to the Lord on their own. They had plenty of opportunities to go their own way, especially when they left home. They are still very much involved in church, and are raising their kids the same way. I think you've gotten your whole impression of how we raise our kids from a few very bad representatives. That would be as bigoted as saying that all black people live in ghettos, or all Jews are tight with money, or all Muslims have a bomb up their sleeves. It's just plain bigoted. And wrong. Until you've walked a mile in someones shoes, limit your judgments over whether broccoli or peas are best. <*)))><

every parent in one way or another forces their views onto their children. And if they dont a child will pick them up...

As long as fundamentalists dont advocate hurting physically other people then it should be okay.

Now that is just foolish. Of course parents are going to teach their children what they believe is the truth. I'm sure the same is true of atheist parents, as well as Buddhists, Hindus, Pagans, wiccans, and any other faith I may not be able to think of right now.
I think it's time to put this question to rest.

I think that everyone should have the right to adopt as long as they can provide a loving, caring household for a child. If they're going to tell the child that he's going to hell, that's NOT caring, and I think they should have their children taken away.

99% of people who have children (by adoption or naturally) attempt to force their views on their children.
I am glad my parents taught me Christianity but glad they did not teach the hateful part as some people do.

Some people teach their kids to hate, some teach them to do drugs, some teach them they aren't good enough unless they get the top grades............there are many bad things people teach children and good things but that is their right as a parent.

All people have strong opinions that they will be able to pass on to their children.

Should a die hard Yankees fan raise childrens?
How about a staunch liberal Democrat?
Or a conservative Republican?
Maybe people who feel strongly about exercise 5 times a day shouldn't be able to scare their kinds into thinking they will die if they don't torture themselves on a treadmill!

Show me a person who has no convictions and I will show you a person who is a mere shell of his/her potential.

I think so. I think Atheist should be allowed to also. No matter how you look at it the Parent will be teaching the child his or her worldview as they should. I pray that they would get into a Christian home though, that they may know the Truth!

Children have little religious freedom in this country, and many parents do take advantage of this to the point of abuse. My mother hit me when I refused to go to church. I do believe in parents introducing religion to their children, but room for personal exploration should also be encouraged.
