Don't get me wrong, I have faith in God, I just can't understand what could make people put all of their faith into a book that was written over 2000 years ago by men. Enlighten me.

I agree...the way some use the Bible borders on idolatry...It is God that people should worship and seek...not the book that was inspired by God, but written by humans.

Over 50 years of studing the Book as given me that faith.

It stands up historically, with archeology time and again proving that the people and events mentioned with the book or true.

It had over 40 authors and yet it holds up doctrinally, in that is it consistent from beginning to end in teachings, images, doctrine and truths. Get any 40 people together and it will be a miracle if they can all agree one ONE idea or doctrine. Forget getting them to agree on the hundreds that run through the Bible without Divine assistence.

I have taken the time to learn the original languages (Greek and Hebrew) well enough that I can muddle through the original manuscripts to assure myself that the text of the Bibles we read today is an accurate and reliable translation of what was original written.

I have looked at the thousands of manuscripts still in existence today of the New Testament - over 2,300 of which predate the first official "church council" where allegedly the NT was created. Yet those manuscripts from all across Europe, Africa and Asia, read word for word the same as the text used today.

I have seen the affect of the scriptures in my own life and those around me. They have brought comfort, stenght, miracles, healing, repentence, faith, and more into my life every day.

Having looked at it, my question would be how could you NOT have faith in it?

The scripture 2 Timothy 3:16-17 states "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the saints of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works".

The Christian faith is based on the Word of God (Bible). Although written 2000 years ago, the context of the scripture still applies today, and helps us to live a life that is pleasing to God.

As a Catholic I put my faith primarily in God. I accept the teachings of the Bible because I believe that God inspired the human authors, the men who actually wrote it, to write what He wanted written. He did not dictate it word for word, like an executive dictating a letter to a stenographer, but He enlightened them so they would write what He wanted written. I believe that when God became a man in Jesus Christ He founded a church. He said He would in this passage in chapter 16 of St. Matthew's Gospel:
15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Because I accept the teaching authority of the Catholic Church, which Jesus founded, I accept its teaching that the Bible is the inspired word of God. I also accept the Church's teaching about what books belong in the Bible and what books, however worthwhile they may be as human-written books, do not.

I wonder why Christians who do not accept the authority of the Catholic Church believe the Bible is inspired and why they accept most of the books the Church says are inspired as inspired, but I'm glad they do.

Well, a lot of civilization is based on the works of Plato which is much older than the Bible. Why Plato?

I love it when people question the conventions of their own faith! You rock!

That said, I'm not christian, so I don't get to answer.

It is historically correct.
It is direct from the mouth of God.....and the people who wrote it were moved by the Holy Spirit to do so.....it didn't come from them.....it came from God.

So if it's from God...then it is 100% trustworthy.
