So your house had a creator but the universe didn't? The universe and everything in it came about by "science", right? That's what you've told me, anyway. You've said the universe, planets, animals, people, plants, etc. came about when the "conditions were right". So let me ask you this:

If you were to lay out all the materials for a house and lay out all the tools and things necessary to build it: Would your house come together just like the universe?

Yep, someone built my house.

No, the universe and everything didn't come about by "science". That's a really weird assertion, actually.

Yes, the conditions were right.

No, those are not the right conditions.

Do you really HONESTLY want to know about the big bang, abiogenesis, evolution, etc? Or are you using Y!A R&S as nothing more than an opportunity to belittle concepts that you cannot comprehend?

Simply put, no. Athiests believe that the universe came into existence, and that all the elements that make it up were created in several stages starting with the big bang (which has several compelling theories in explanation, most of which make perfect sense and have supportive evidence). Life was then created by the perfect meeting of the specific elements needed for life (which has again been explained). A mainstay of argument against such theory is that it 'simply couldn't have happened by chance' but few people grasp the true size of our universe, it is simply too big to ever be traversed, seen, or even measured. In a universe this large, it is beyond unlikely that elements wouldn't fall together in unexpected ways. Now to answer the original question, as I understand it life has been created in the laboratory, but it's extremely complex and difficult. You can't just stick them together and watch it wiggle, I advise you do some research before you start arguing this again, you can't support it.

"So your house had a creator but the universe didn't?"
-- I don't know

"The universe and everything in it came about by "science", right?"
-- It came about through the laws which it obeys, whatever those are.

"If you were to lay out all the materials for a house and lay out all the tools and things necessary to build it: Would your house come together just like the universe?"
-- Probably not but it is possible though highly unlikely according to quantum theory. What's your point?

are you continuing this inane line of questioning even after nearly every atheist on Y!A has completely demolished your dumbass arguments in various logically sound and interesting ways?

Well, you are persistent, I'll give you that.

"If you were to lay out all the materials for a house and lay out all the tools and things necessary to build it: Would your house come together just like the universe?"

THIS IS NOT HOW NATURE WORKS. A HOUSE IS NOT A SELF-REPLICATING LIVING ORGANISM NOR IS IT ANYTHING LIKE THE EARLY UNIVERSE. DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE?

Look, there are two events in this universe that I truly can't explain, and if you wish, put your god in those gaps. Gaps close eventually, and a god of the gaps is doomed.

Event 1: Why did the big bang do its thing, what was on t=0
Event 2: How did life get started (abiogenesis)

Pretty much every event since then can be modeled after some fashion or the other. We understand how the universe expanded after the big bang, how simple elements led to more complex elements led to even more complex elements led to every frigging star and planet in the universe, we understand how the forces of natural selection have guided life since its beginning.

So if you want, you can state your 'god' started the big bang and then several billion years later sparked life. Its pretty much contradictory with your bible god who meddles with everything all the time but hey, go ahead.

So who designed the designer?

The very existence of a designer, whether he has always been or not, proves that a designer is not necessary for even very complex things.

There are plenty of things that come about without someone "building" them. I just can't see how you people think this is a good argument. What about sand? Did sand need someone to build it? Did the Grand Canyon need a builder? Cavemen didn't need builders for their houses. How is it so hard to separate the things we make from the things we don't?

You are an idiot. You should read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins and you will understand that there are other options apart from Creation and Random Chance.

Why does it have to be one or the other with you people? Can't you see that there are other ways? There are forces that work methodically that don't have conscious thought.

I guess they don't even read each other's posts.
*sigh*
But I still say you are doing a great job.
They won't admit it here, in this forum, but we can pray that maybe...
just maybe...
your words will come back to them, even if it's 20 years from now, and they think, "gee, I can't remembe that kid's name, but she made me think...I'm so glad I changed my life and came to know Christ!"
You may never know about it.
Until you meet them in God's House.
Keep fighting the good fight, Hun!

Silly girl! Energy, millions of years, and building blocks seem much more sensible than a singular being creating anything complex just to destroy it later.

Someone built my house. Where did the builder come from? Did he just exist fully formed with no origin of any kind? Somehow, I don't think so.

Three times? You had to ask this stupid question 3 times? I'm guessing you are around 16 years old, aren't you? THIS WILL NEVER WORK! Why do you keep at it?
