Righteousness is credited to the believer (Christian) at the point of salvation...

So it can only come through Jesus Christ

We are still in the flesh but....we are counted as righteous now because of the sacrifice of Christ. No one can ever be righteous in and of themselves.

Righteous in the Christian sense means to be right with God. To live as God wishes us to.

As opposed to SELF-righteous - which is something so many Christians both Protestant and Catholic suffer from.

When we sit here mocking and snipping one another - your sinning, your church is wrong, your pastor is wrong, you worship wrong - we are being self-righteous.

This is not pleasing to God.

We are all faulty. We are all spiritually frail - and some utterly broken.

That is why we must LOVE one another - the way God taught us. Love even those who hate you and curse you. Those are the words of Christ! People who follow that - are righteous.

How do we GET RIGHTEOUS? We try our best to live the Gospel Life. To live as Jesus taught. Since we are frail and full of faults, when we fall down, we must pick ourselves up, ask forgiveness (of those we've offended - not just from God) and try again.

St. Francis called this daily conversion. For me, it's often HOURLY.

Righteousness is perfection or a part or aspect of perfection, but you have to be perfect. You can't try to be perfect because if your all ready imperfect you can never be perfect again. Prefect ion can have no past flaws.
Unless you perfect you can't be righteous that's why God had to die in our place so that we could have HIS righteousness.

Some of these answers suggest to me that as a Pagan I have no right to be righteous. Is that right?
