One thing to keep in mind first: Christians believe the Holy Spirit is an integral part of God the Father; therefore, any transgression against the Spirit is actually committed against God Himself.

Isaiah 11:1-2 (clearly a Messianic prophecy, wouldn't you agree?) tells us the Messiah will have this Spirit; it also tells us what the Spirit's works are:

1 And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall grow forth out of his roots.

2 And the spirit of HaShem shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of HaShem.

The New Testament tells us that the Spirit also works in the lives of each of us, not just in the Messiah (although He certainly has a greater portion that we do!). The Spirit's works lead sinners to repentance; the Spirit also indwells believers and teaches them how to pray. So you can see that the Spirit plays a HUGE role in bringing sinners to a right relationship with God the Father.

The first step to committing blasphemy against the Holy Spirit requires you speak or believe an untruth about His nature. For example, that His power comes from Satan (as recounted at Matthew 12:24); that His wisdom is flawed (which can lead a person into apostacy and rejection of God's ways); that His guidance is not accurate (again, apostacy is the end result here); or that there is no use fearing (respecting) God.

When Jesus said that every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven by God EXCEPT blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, what He was communicating was this: you can blaspheme God; you can commit the worst sins imaginable; but if you ignore the calling of the Holy Spirit to repent and you end up dying in your sins, you CANNOT be forgiven.

The real Holy Spirit are the words of God planted into the mouth of His Chosen Ones. The words written in the Old Testament are surely the words coming from Him specially His teachings and his commands. Once you have that in your mind and put those in your heart as your guidance through life, do your best not to utter or take those words in contempt. Do not try to add up or make any changes in the words that may alter its real intentions or meaning.
Blasphemy may also come if you claim those words as originally coming from your own thoughts. The Holy Spirit as presented by the Christians may not be the real truth if taken as an "entity". When you call on the Holy Spirit make sure you are praying for the words to come out of your mouth as God wants it to be. Good luck and God bless.

Oh my hat, I see someone has my username! Oh my...lol, ok...I think blasphemying against the holy spirit is by doing the exact opposite of what it wants you to do...oh, and denying that it exist or saying that it's from the devil. I never knew the answer to that even when i was a christian.

Blasphemy against the Spirit
- Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven (Matthew 12:31)

Is the sin of attributing to Satan
- But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man drives out demons only by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons." (Matthew 12:24)

What is the work of the Spirit of God
- But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Matthew 12:28)

We really do not know why Jesus said this sin is unforgivable.

With love in Christ.

You listen to its words and then do, or believe, the opposite of what it tells you. Deny its existence, or believe you are above it...
