lcds are supposed to be better because plasma can burn out easily if you leave it on for a long time, or pause a movie for awhile, the picture stays there for a bit.

What your eye sees is what matters.
Plasmas don't burn out any faster then a normal tube TV. If you get a cheap wall-mart Plasma like an iLO, it will leave an imprint on the screen. If you play video games neither are really good for that.
Thickness is the same, about 3"-5" depending on the model. Actually if you match sizes an LCD will cost more.
I agree with the mounting comment. You save so much floor space and plus the chics dig it.
If you are still looking now is a good time to get a great Plasma for a steal. Panasonic TH50PX60U has dropped big time. The TH58PX60U has come down as well. I just sold 3 of them for 58" models for $2600 each. Mounts run about $175 & up.

You need to be more specific - there are different 50" plasmas and 42" LCD's. But if you talking about the same price range - go with plasma. Picture is way better, black color gradation, view angle, speed - everyhting is better. There is even a 1080p plasma - frolm Pioneer PDP-FHD1, which is absolutely stunning.
Waiting for another new technology? Ralph Crampton would be still wating for a 3-D television!

Hi. Neither .That technology has been replaced with a soon to be released LASER TV which (supposedly)doesn't have the problems associated with Plasma and LCD .As with Plasma and LCD the first laser TVs will be expensive, but only for a while .If you don't want to wait i would say that the LCD process is better.
Cheers. Have a look at the linc below :

LCD's are brighter, the black levels arent as nice as plasmas, 1st generation plasmas had problems with burn in on screen but thats been getting much better. Plasma uses a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells charged by precise electrical voltages to create a picture. LCD screens are in laymans terms sandwiches made up of liquid crystal pushed in the space between two glass plates. plasmas have a better viewing angle too. for better value, LCD's tend to cost a bit cheaper then plasmas but both have strengths & weaknesses.

even though the plasma is bigger in size the lcd is much better quality. the lcd is also skinnier. some times lcds are alot cheaper than plasmas.
plasmas also burn out quicker. since there loosely based on a florecent bulb. they have higher running tempereture. and lower display life.
lcds have longer display life. cooler temperature. more brightness. and lighter weight.

DO NOT GET A FLAT SCREEN UNLESS YOU WANNA HANG IT UP!!!!!!!
there are better tvs than flat screens keep your eyes open and think of your application. non-flats are much cheaper.
I would say the lcd. the pic is much better and it should last longer. the only thing is make sure the lcd has a high number of pixcels.
