I got my first tattoo about a year ago, I was really scared, but honestly they dont really hurt, and take it from me, I cry when I get a cut or a splinter!
I mean it definitly doesnt tickle, but the pain isnt that bad, you can handle it!
Hope I was helpful.

Ok, you want to know if it will hurt. There are lots of people who say it hurts like a you know what, and others that say different. The reason for the different answers is because every ones pain threshold is different. Some people break out into crying fits over paper cuts, others can have a bone sticking out and they are not going to even wine. My hubby says I have an ungodly high threshold of pain tolerance. My hubby, who is a tattoo artist, did an arm band on some 18 year old tooth pick of a boy, the didn't flinch. The next day he did half an arm band on a great big lumberjack looking guy (he put in telephone and power poles for a living), the guys arms were bigger then my thigh, and he blubbered like a baby!
Here is another thing to keep in mind, the pain is only temporary, and when it is gone you have a beautiful work of art to show for.
A tattoo, no matter where it is is going to hurt, the only question is how much, and like I said, that depends. Me personally, I always find it to be a cross between a mild burning sensation and a minor annoyance. By the time the outline is done, you usually don't feel much because the skin is numb. Also, where you have it put is going to have allot to do with pain. I have one that wraps around my thigh, a garter belt, back side of the thigh hurt like hell!! The one I got on my lower back was fun, and I mean really fun(lower back is a g-spot)!! Hubby and I have always told customer that if you build yourself up for the worse pain imaginable, you will be very suprised.
If you are that afraid of the pain, my suggestion to you is to do one of two things. Either get something small that can be later added to, or don't get one.

Yes! The Tattoo Does Hurt. The Needle Is The Pain Source.
Any Time A Needle Is Present There Is Pain. The Least Painful Area Is Your Lower Fore Arm. I Would Not Get A Tattoo Near My Wrist Because Of Scarring. Every Time You Move Your Wrist To Write Or Any Activity Near The Wrist Can Cause Scarring. This Is Just My Way of Thinking!

It depends on your tolerance for pain and the location. I have 6 tattoos and 3 of them are on the side of my upper left thigh. This was the least painful place at of all of them. The worst was my ankle. I wanted to flinch so bad when I got the one. It needs touched up and I just don't even want to mess with it. The less fat in the area, the more it'll hurt.
I'd recommend something small and in a less painful spot for your first one. After the first few minutes, you get used to the pain and it's really not that bad. But be warned, tattoos are addicting. I said I'd never get one, and now I have 6.

Ummmm given the choice of natural childbirth and getting a tattoo...I'd rather have a new tattoo. If you think about a needle going into your skin about a gazillion times a minute, yes...it hurts like hell, especially in a place near a lot of nerves or on a part of your body that doesn't have much padding...like an ankle or wrist or near your spine.
Oddly enough I found Lamaze style breathing to help tremendously to help dull or ignore the pain of getting a new tattoo.

Of course it does! You're getting jabbed with a needle multiple times. If it doesn't hurt, there's something wrong with you or you're just trying to be macho. It's a bearable pain though. And it usually doesn't hurt as much as you think it's going to. My experience has been that it hurts at first but the area goes numb so after a while it's a dull ache. Certain parts of the body hurt more than others. The tats on my ankles hurt more during after care because of the skin stretching as I walked, bent over, a million things you may not think effect that area.
The pain is always worth it though because you are left with a beautiful work of everlasting art.

Usually yes. It depends on the person. There's really no way of telling. My friend had a tattoo on his upper right arm. He said it didn't hurt at all, just felt weird being pricked. Two years later, he had another one on the same location, but on the left arm. He said it hurt so bad he was fighting back tears. The same guy inked him both times. He has no idea why it hurt the second time.

It hurts some. Some areas of the body hurt worse than others. I thought getting my ears pierced was worse. It does hurt some, but it's not unbearable. If you get a really large tattoo they won't do it all at once. And once they get going it gets kind of numb. I usually have about one minute of thinking, "what was I thinking", and then even though it hurts it kind of feels good too.

depends on how much pain you normally tolerate. When I got my tattoo I already had a sunburn... it kind of felt like a repetative scratch but not really painful. my friend however said it really hurt and she would never get another. I was set on getting a tattoo so I guess I really didn't care how much it hurt, I knew the end result would be satisfying to me and the pain (if any) would be worth it.

everybody is going to tell you something different. i can only tell you from my experience that tattoos hurt. every one of mine has hurt, some more than others. but you make it thru the pain which is only temporary and you have something to show for it for life. also the memory of the pain fades quickly for me. i have never had a tattoo hurt so much that i never wanted to get another one.
