I googled "black bathroom" and found this article, hope you find it helpful.
BTW, I like your boldness ... don't listen to the nay-sayers ... stay bold. If you don't like it, just repaint the room.

I have seen bathrooms that were with walls all black, or with black and white tiles in places to break up the monotony. In a bathroom, the relief from the solid color would be with using a different wainscoting if you want; a coordinating or contrasting shower curtain (red with black is dramatic); flooring of lighter value, maybe that bounces the light; use of throw rugs for contrast; and of course the use of mirrors and vanity top to throw the light and give some relief. It doesnt have to be a "black hole" if you think about those other accoutrements and how you want to contrast.
I remember the years of the black and white octagonal 1 inch tiles that were absolutely fascinating for a child to look at while sitting on the potty! They are hard to keep clean, but it is still the retro look that has come back.

Never seen it or done it, but I guess the key would be the accessories. If there is a lot of shiny silver fixtures it might look good.
I'm having trouble imagining it though--maybe if the rest of your house has an artsy ecclectic feel to it it could work, but I think it's a bad idea unless black would fit in with everything else. Plus, it will be twice as hard to change it back to white than a lighter color would be.

Try painting the ceiling black and the walls a lighter color. Maybe even wall paper one wall with a black and white print. Also maybe paint the trim black. I have seen model homes like this it is sooo cool!

I would add a chair rail or beadboard bottom half to break it up. Chair rail is less expensive, then you could do the bottom black, top white or whatever. Otherwise, I'd only do one wall black and the others white or cream, depending on your color scheme (I hope you have one besides just black!) with a big white/cream framed pic or something on it. That would be dramatic without enveloping you in.

Dark colors are really hard to paint with. You will need numerous layers in order for it to look contiguous. You will need to make sure you have plenty of illumination, bright colored towels and plenty of mirror room in order to prevent it from looking like a cave.

Dark colors make a room look even smaller than it already is. If you don't want a hole in the wall, you'll need to choose another color.
