this is amazing,u guys.. thank you so much for your opinions. I think its true..we`re human beings and we can still sin. We`re not perfect, but forgiven, and given the power to overcome sin.. because of Jesus` blood. we should extend that love and kindness to others too.

As a fellow Christian, I've seen where we do not live up to what we say we should and as Jesus has taught us. There are rules we seem to pick to our liking and consider it is okay in God's sight. We make excuses when we commit the same sin as the world. We claim forgiveness but Why Don't We Claim That Power To Overcome Sin Before It Happens?

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Christianity is a bad thing the point I want to make is that we are hypocrites. If we truly did what Jesus said we would not let sin get the best of us. There's power in the Blood before Sin. Yield not to Temptation.

to the person talking about perfection. Since Jesus said that we should be it's possible. We should not cut the Power of God to man's level. Living a perfect life is called Sancification.

The biggest reason for calling a Christian a hypocrite is when someone spouts off about how one thing is wrong (ex. homosexuality), but has no problem with many others (divorce or premarital sex or being greedy, etc.) when all these issues are bad according to the Bible. How can you (not you personally) be so active against one "sin" and ignore all the others? This is hypocrisy.

In addition, when someone is less that "Christ-like", somehow they are "not true Christians". However, we know that no one is perfect and all Christians sin, so no one would be a "true" Christian by that reasoning.

Then, I hear so much about Christians being persecuted and no one lets them follow their beliefs anymore, when any attempt at neutrality in religion is really an attempt to allow all the other religions to follow their beliefs, despite the overpowering might of Christianity in our society. We are trying to tone down the government's support of Christianity so that everyone else can practice their religions. Christians don't seem to realize that their religion is grossly oppressing millions of people and keeping them from following their own non-Christian beliefs.

Just to explain a few reasons. I hope it didn't sound snarky. I do get a bit carried away when talking about religion.

Unfortunately there are millions of people, who claim to be Christians, that do things contrary to Christianity-even whole denominations.
The world, or non-Christians see this and may not be able to distinguish a real Christian from a false one. Add to that-many non western peoples think all westerners are Christians. Plus-the history of the Crusades and the Inquisitions and you have a bad attitude developing about Christians. The present war on terror is seen as a Christian war, as was WW II. This is just not true-but perception, whether right or wrong, rules the day.
Now, add in that many "Christian" denominations today no longer regard the Bible as the final authority on doctrine-like, the Catholics, Episcopals, Methodist, and a few others. This makes for a confusing environment both inside and outside the church. The real Christians (what ever church they are in) are left with a degenerating diseased Christianity that may not be cured until Jesus comes-and that will be too late.

Many reasons, the main one I'll get into here is the cherry picking problem.

Christians claim that homosexuality is an abomination and a sin, and they like to quote that passage from Leviticus. However just a couple verses above that passage (3 I think) it says to kill disobedient children, and a few verses below it (5 I think) it says that if a man and woman have sex while she's on her period, they must both be outcast (i.e. deported)... So how come christians are so adamant about the homosexuality thing yet they ignore the verse on the same damn page telling them to murder disobedient children? Also Jesus doesn't mention homosexuals but he reinforces the killing of disobedient children (see Mark 7:9-10)! Also, later in Leviticus it says that eating shrimp and lobster is an abomination. So if you're going to hate homosexuals, why not hate those who eat seafood? They're both abominations according to the same passages of the bible!

This is one of the many hypocrisies that you see among christians. The adamant adherence to a certain passage while ignoring the rest of the page.

Another thing to talk about briefly is the claim of morality... christians like to see themselves as the most moral - and many of them are... however atheists/agnostics have (by far) the lowest rates of divorce, teen pregnancy, abortion, stds, crime, violence, rape, and social dysfunction. Yet many christians claim that non-believers are inherently immoral, despite that non-believers are statistically the most moral! Meanwhile christians are statistically some of the most immoral (highest rates of divorce is among protestants, with catholics not far behind. Religious are also more likely to have stds, abortions, teen pregnancies, murder, violence, etc.)... that seems a bit hypocritcal.

I appreciate that you're willing to come into this with an open mind. Certainly not all christians are hypocritical, but a great deal of them are... hopefully I've illustrated some of why this is, and I hope you can convince your fellow believers to be less hypocritical and to judge not 'lest they be judged themselves...

Some Christians are hypocrites. Not all but some.
If it had been left up to Christians for my conversion it would of never happened.
Before I became a Christian I went once into a Christian church, it was just before Christmas, I was depressed and needed someone to talk to, the church was jam packed with people, not one single person there had the time to talk to me, they were all too busy with their Christmas program. I walked away still depressed and lost. I thank God every day that he intervened on my behalf.
It is this kind of thing that turns people away along with chapter and versing people to death instead of being real with them or judging people by the length of their hair or tattoos or body piercings or how they are dressed.

you are going to get a lot of abuse on this one. how about the perspective of another Christian? although I prefer to be known as a Christ follower, People just can not grasp that there is a difference between being saved from our sins and perfection. WE still sin just like everyone else ,the difference is we are humble enough to admit it to God and eccept forgiveness. We will never be perfect this side of Heaven why do others think we are supposed to be. Also others do not understand what we do, that as followers and believers in Christ, Satan knows he no longer has a chance to do anything to us except keep us from doing Gods will, which is teaching others about Him. Since we all have leanings to certain sins whether they are sexual, prideful, gossiping or whatever he works his way in if He can. Then unbelievers see it and say Why should I believe in a God like that? Prideful zealots think they have to force others to believe and punish if others don't listen, so they get caught up in these big campaigns against gays and people who get abortions. Those type of Christians are no better than suicide bombers. They push people away from God, just what satan wants. unbeleivers don't know the kind of attacks we can come under as christians. for all those think i am trying to blame the devil for making me do it... let me say we are all responsible for what we do and we all receive the consequences of our actions . Christ warned us about this that we are supossed to remain in fellowship and hold each other accountable. Most churches are too big to do that, people don't know each other let alone share lives. Those who do make friends tend to group with those who think like them, so who's going to tell you when you are wrong about something?

I'm a Christian..here's my theory on this:

As Christians, we are supposed to be examples of Christ (hence the name which means "Little Christ"). Christ was perfect--therefore, non-Christians expect us to be perfect too and that we must always "practice what we preach".

Since we as humans are not perfect and will never come close to being perfect, it's easy for us to sin and not reflect Christ. Because of this, non-Christians consider us hypocrites because we often times say one thing and do another.

When you get right down to it though, it doesn't matter what your religion is or if you even have one--we're all hypocrites.

I think that 'Christian' has several meanings:

There are cultural Christians, who celebrate Christmas and Easter and may or may not darken the doorway of a church now and again. They call themselves Christians but wouldn't be so extreme as to allow any of Jesus' teachings to affect their lives.

There are people who faithfully attend church and drop their tithes in the offering plate, but have never understood the essence of Jesus' teachings. They'll quote scripture in order to get their way, to make God over in their own image, to hide their own guilt. These are the ones who make the news.

There are Christians who try, daily, to model themselves after Christ. Even these fail, but repent, and keep on trying. These people aren't so noisy about their Christianity, and the outside world isn't so aware of them. Some of this third group are so sickened by the hypocrisy of the traditional church that they don't even refer to themselves as Christians, but as 'followers of Jesus Christ'.

Thus, the loudest and most visible symbols of Christendom are the least Christ-like, and most likely to make us look like scoundrels and hypocrites.

We object to the fact that rather than teaching love and peace, Christians tend to follow leaders who preach hate (homosexuals and witches), who use their congregations numbers to influence political goals that legislate that hatred and finally religious leaders who support greed. As a follower we feel that the members of the congregations need to either demand that their religious leaders refrain from these practices or remove them. Peace on earth is only reachable by peace being achieved within and then spread without.

The non-Christian how considers a Christian a hypocrite is just witnessing Christian that God refers to as "luke-warm", and being "luke-warm" God will spit them out. These Christians call themselves Christians because it's the "right" thing to do but are no different than a non-Christian. I'm not saying non-Christians are bad people. Any one can call themself a Christian. Some of the worst people I know, when I ask them "what faith do you conside yourself to be..." they tell me they are a Christian...I tell them, "then live like one." Also, you aren't suppose to look to mankind as a template of God's love...man will always fall short. You should never put your faith in man.
