Are there any good home remedies to keep fles and ticks off of dogs that run in the woods all the time. I have tried frontline, k9 adv. and advantage. None of these work. I can't keep them out of the woods either cause when I let them go outside they are walking straight into the woods. Please help me.

i use avon skin so soft on my dogs. i just pour a small amount on the back of their neck and a small amount on their lower back. believe it or not it works. also if you put vinegar in their water it also helps. if you want to get something from the vet try Adams flea and tick spray

Frontline works the best for ticks. Advantage does not have anything to prevent ticks. Be wary of anything you can buy at Walmart or the grocery store. Many of these can cause severe skin irritation and seizures (including Hartz). The important thing with Frontline is proper application. In order for it to work it has to be applied directly to the skin, try not to let it get on the hair. Also, the medication uses the natural oils in the skin to spread out over the whole dog. Don't apply it within 2 days of a bath, since baths strip some of the oils. If your dogs get wet a lot (swimming or rain) you might need to apply it every 2-3 weeks instead of just once a month.

I don't understand why neither of these products work for your dogs. There suppose too. Is there a possibility that your dogs are getting wet right after you've put these products on them? There not suppose to get wet so many hours after you put the product on them. Hey just out of curiousity, are you getting the product directly from your Vets or some place else? I'm only asking this because I've heard (don't know if it's really true) but sometimes if you don't get them through the vets there's a chance the product could be a conterfit. If you didn't purchase these products from the vets I suggest you call your vets and tell them this is happening to you....and why isn't the product working. If your not satisfied with their answers then what I'd do is call the company of the products and see what they have t say? Good Luck MLJ

Advantage isn't a tick treatment or preventative.

I can promise you Frontline does work if applied correctly - but be aware it only guards against ticks for 2 weeks. If applied monthly it should do fine. Also be aware that the ticks to have to bite the animal to die from the treatment - so you may seem them attached, but they will fall off within a few hours. Your dog is a higher risk for ticks if he runs in the woods, it's going to be tougher to keep him tick-free.

Home remedies are NOWHERE as effective as Frontline and the like. Our shepherd runs our 100 acres and uses perscription strength frontline and rarely has a tick. The trick is to use the medication properly.

I have found that Frontline works really well. I've been using it on my dog for years. He never has ANY fleas or ticks.

We use Revolution. It is like Frontline or Advantage, but is better. It also provides heartworm prevention. We get it from our vet. Works very well!

She's right about the avon skin-so-soft bath oil. I've used it on our pets for years. I put some in my hands and lightly rub it onto their fur.
