The same amount of time as in all dog and cat breeds - usually by 5 months, sometimes it can take up to 8. Any longer than this and a castration will have to be performed - testicles cannot stay inside the abdomen, they can become strangulated, die off and cause blood poisoning. The cost of this type of castration will be more than a standard castration as it involves hunting around in the abdomen for the missing testicle/s!

Ask you vet if you should wait for the testicles to drop or go ahead with the castration now.

Generally they are dropped by now. Sometimes they take a little bit longer but if they aren't dropped by 8 months, I would go ahead and have him neutered because they are unlikely to drop after that. It is more expensive and a little more invasive if it is done before they drop, but it is very important. Retained testicles are MUCH more likely to become cancerous.
