My son who is 15 months old has had it for the past 3 days. He doesnt seem to be that bothered by it. He isnt eating as much as he normally would. His fluid intake has been increased so he doesnt get dehydrated but, outside of that I dont know what else to do. Any suggestions?

While rarely serious when treated properly, diarrhea can send your baby to the hospital if he becomes dehydrated, so your first concern should be giving him enough liquids. If your baby isn't also vomiting, continue to give him breast milk or formula. If he can't keep that down, call his doctor, who may suggest that you start giving your baby a pediatric electrolyte solution, like Pedialyte, ReVital, or a generic brand. These solutions are available in drugstores and come in flavors that most babies will readily drink if they're dehydrated. They're generally easier to keep down than breast milk or formula, too.

Avoid sweetened fluids like sodas (including ginger ale), athletic drinks (like Gatorade), Jell-O, sugar water, and undiluted fruit juices. All of these contain sugar that will draw water into the intestine and make the diarrhea worse. Also, don't use anti-diarrhea medicine unless the doctor prescribes it.

Doctors now advise continuing to feed solids to a baby with diarrhea who's already made the transition to finger or table food. While there's nothing wrong with feeding your child the classic BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and dry toast), the AAP says any foods made up of complex carbohydrates, such as rice, wheat, potatoes, bread, and baby cereal, as well as lean meats, yogurt, fruits, and vegetables, are safe to eat. (If your baby temporarily refuses to eat, don't worry. As long as he stays hydrated, his appetite should return in a day or two.)

Studies have shown that live bacterial cultures, found in yogurt, are a safe and effective way to cut down on the amount and duration of diarrhea. It's an easy way to treat the problem, especially if your baby loves the taste of yogurt. Just be sure to buy yogurt with lactobacillus, or live cultures.

I would honestly call his doctor. Its been 3days. It could be just the flu or something, but you want to make sure with your peditrician. He can also prescribe something for the diarreha for a 15mo old. Do not give him anything over the counter as they are not made for kids that young.
You are doing the right thing by keeping his fluids up, but he can end up with an electrolyte imbalance. This happened to my 4 yr old when she was little.
Call the doctor, better safe than sorry.

Any pets in the house? Could have picked up some worms from dog to carpet to baby. Call your son's doctor and describe all symptoms. Is this your only child? Has the child been around any other children?

In the meantime, you might want to mix up some Jello water. Try feeding him small pieces of cheese. Works for me.

Take him to a doctor and take care.

What you can do is monitor how many diapers he's going through...Give the fluids ginger always helps and pedialyte is great the juice the icy pops etc...But smell it see if it has a sour smell because he could have infection ...food maybe fell wrong in his tummy...Is is really watery..Give it about 2 more days and see a doc they can prescribe something to make him feel better and becareful he doesn't have a fever..Oh it could be teething he is only 15mths

Cheese stops you up pretty good. Mozzeralla is so mild, he'll probably eat it, OK.

I think Immodium (and the generic equivalents) are not recommended for young children.

he sounds like hes doing really well... good job! just try spending alittle more quality time with him, give some pedialyte to hydrate his body and give him back all the electrolytes that has been lost as the result of diarreah. hope i helped!

Bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, starchy foods.
Just remember, if all he's getting in is liquid, than all that will come out is liquid.

That is really all you can do, wait it out and keep him drinking fluids. I always bought my son those pedia-pops, he loved those.
