I have a miniature American Eskimo... he has tear stains all the time! I've bought the tear stain remover pads and cleaner from the pet store... those aren't working. Any other ideas?? Thanks!

ohh i've asked the same thing recently! i've heard of products like angels eyes but i'm not sure how well they work and if they are for sure 100% safe. i asked my dog's vet yesterday and he said NOT to put vinegar in the water (which a lot of people suggest) because that could mess up their urine and cause crystals. he suggested giving my dog a little bit (teaspoon, she is a pom) of yougart everyday. he heard this helps. otherwise just keep cleaning, it will help somewhat over time. good luck!!!

There's products -- not easy though. I have a white faced dog and I use the tear stain remover (I got from the pet store) with a q-tip --has to be applied regularly though. Some people who show dogs actually use strong cleaners but you must be very very careful near their eyes. If you clean the dog's eyes every single day the stains usually go away. I have been told to make sure you use purified water (not tap water) as that can cause stains, and food with no dyes.

Ask a professional pet groomer for product information and recommendation. They may have products stocked to enable pet owners to purchase and apply effective stain removers.

Using the Yahoo Search engine...and the search "Dog tear stain remover"

You can very carefully, using blunt scissors pointing away from her eyes, clip the stained hair, then wipe the eyes every day using those presoaked tear stain remover pads. I use the pads once a day, but keep tissues handy to wipe the
eyes as soon as I see them tearing. There is also a product called "Angel's Eyes" that is effective for prevention of stain which works from the inside out. Then there are products for immediate removal for what is there, though there may still be some discoloration.

When my dog was a puppy, she had the tear stains, but as she grew older they went away. It could be allergies, from something outside, or the food your feeding. Or it could be your water. Try bottled water. If you have a puppy, wait until it's older, and see if it goes away. You could try a better food too. I use innova. But taking it to the vet would be a waste. Also none of the store products worked for me. I did try the bleach and corn starch, but it was seemed kind of dangerous putting that stuff so close to their eyes. One more thing, does your dogs have alot of hair in his eyes. It seemed to help my dog if I kept the hair real short, around the eyes.

I am a groomer and those stains are from the acidity in the tears of your pet. I have read in several books about the use of corn starch to remove them. There is also a product called Angel Eyes that is supposed to work well. It is a supplement you put in their food. Most owners have them shaved out.

All you can do is wash, wash, wash. Try to wash his his face(the Affected area) twice a day.

We had a white standard poodle with the same issue. We use tear free baby wash diluted in warm water and a wash cloth. If we washed morning and night, it didn't get to bad.

foods that contain artificial colors or dyes is the #1 suspect when dogs have tear stains. trying a holistic food like eagle pack, wellness, or innova will increase your dogs health and it will end up saving you money!!

PLEASE do not take the previous suggestion to use bleach or peroxide near your dog's eyes. Very dangerous!
