We are throwing a small dance for my brother's 13th birthday (about 30-40 people). We were hoping to get decent sounding speakers for my computer because we will use our music we have downloaded.

I know NOTHING about speakers. Any advice on what would be a good amount of watts, etc?

I rather like my logitech z-560's they'll drive you out of the house.

it's got 400 watts RMS (not peak) and a huge subwoofer

If you already have a good home stereo that you feel would be loud enough, you might want to consider hooking that up to your computer. Much cheaper to buy a connector cable than a new ( expensive) speaker system for your computer.

Don't assume that the higher the watts the better. High wattage means it will play louder, but not clearer.
