Sounds like a job for a professional shop with the right equipment and experience to test and find out what's really wrong with your car. Doesn't hurt to call a shop and see if the mechanic will at least talk to you to determine if you need to take it in for service or can walk yourself through the problem.

sounds like it is 180 degrees out of time. on the camshaft sprocket there is a little hole which corresponds with a mark on the top of the cam cap closest to the sprocket. on the crank there is a cut out on the crank sprocket and a mark on the block. if all else fails it with be bent valves or a crank angle sensor.i don't think these are free spinning engines and if u said the belt broke, most likely bent valves.

its probably out of time. Check the compression, if it has good compression, its probably not bent valves. Make sure you have the right marks on the camshaft sprocket., sometimes there are a couple of different marks that can confuse you on a hyundai. After installing the tensioner, did you rotate the crank two complete revolutions by hand to make sure it stayed in time?

You need to pull the head the thing that the spark plugs go into and check the values there probably bent OR
Your timing is way off your timing belt is not on correctly problem is when the engine is firing the intake value is open (miss timing) and the fire goes out the intake not the exhaust.

Sorry but you don't have the timing right on.Start again.remove number 1 plug, roll the engine over until number1 piston is up as far as it will go,you should be able to see the top of piston with a flash light, now check the camshaft timing, the camshaft drive gear has a small hole in it if the cam timing is right on the this small hole should line up with the red marker on the front seal housing, and the crankshaft pulley TDC marker should line up with the mark on the front cover.

If you have mechanical background, then diagnose it with a manual. Never guess while you work. Else, best thing is to send it to the authorised workshop to have it running again.
