My 2 year old absolutely loves both black and green olives. She puts them on her fingers and eats them off. Sometimes when she eats too many she ends up pooping them out, cause she doesn't chew them completely. But I wouldn't take them from her.

Sure, it's fine for a 2 year old to eat olives. We've been giving them to our kids for years - just 10 at a time, one to put on each finger. Medium size pitted olives only have about 5 calories each so they aren't high in calories. Sodium for 5 medium olives is 115 mg, so not too high considering even a graham cracker has 120 mg of sodium and a cup of Cheerios has 190 mg. Are they healthy? They aren't a significant source of any vitamin so they aren't nutritious, but they aren't bad for you in moderation.

Okay if they're pitted and not from Italy. A notice came last week from Department of State about contaminated canned olives from Italy.

They are easy to choke on so cut them in half, at least, and they are very high in salt. I think using them as a garnish for a sandwich or pizza or salad, as a treat is fine, but not by the can full like mine would try to do.

I have a 2 yr old and she loves them! she sticks them on her fingers then eats them. I don't feel they are bad for her if eaten in moderation (like any other food). I give her 10 one for each finger and she has a ball.
