I was raised in a Catholic, United Methodist and Baptist mixed family...but choose to follow the Wiccan Path later in Life.
Why?
I got tired of seeing the same things over and over within the Church...people going out an committing adultry, alcoholism, drug addictions, watching pornography, etc. etc. then going back to church the following Sunday to repent for their sins...only to repeat the vicious cycle all over again the next week!!
Since becoming a Wiccan my Life has been so "free spirited" and peaceful!!

I bought it hook, line and sinker. Didn't escape until I was in my thirties. I learned a lot, but really, I could have been doing something better with my time.
If nothing else, I would have a degree, or two, that was a wee bit more relevant to my current life. Hence a better job in a field I was more suited for. And therefore less inclination to spar about on here.
Unfortunately, there is something else. I've had chronic, degenerative ill-health for most of my life. It was dire in my twenties. The comfort and hope of religion was all that kept me going most days.
If I hadn't had religion then, I would have been forced to look harder for an alternative treatment. Religion helped me 'bear' it for far too long. If I had gotten more creative earlier, I would have been able to slow the damage much sooner and today I would be in far better shape.
Religion has definitely shaped my life. I wish I'd never had it. The benefits were never worth this cost.

Religion was a duty of do's and don'ts for me, a litany of rules and regulations, trying to appease an angry God.
Now that I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, what I do to maintain this relationship with Him is not a burden anymore, but a joy; getting to know Him and His love for me better. Also, relationships with followers of Jesus are sweet.

It shapes everyone's life. Even us atheists have to put up with faith-heads influencing legislation, censoring the media and generally imposing their crazed fantasies on the world.
And starting wars that we have to pay for, of course.

I have come to believe none of the religions is the "true" one (as they all claim).
I am happy and prosperous without it.

I wonder if I would be alive if I hadn't become a Christian. I love my Lord and I love the "blessed hope" He has given to me. Thanks for the question.
