I did read that your dog is on a regular diet of dog food, so, I am assuming that the tuna is for a special dinner treat, and not what you are planning to feed him three times a day. Same with the home food(table scraps) I take it is is more a treat than anything, right.

I thought so.

It is fine to feed your dog special treats in small portions. And the tuna is fine for a dog as it is for a cat.

Rice is OK as a treat when cooked with water only - no spices...( it's good to get dogs used to plain white or brown rice any way, cuz if they ever get ill or a belly ache rice water - rice boiled with Xtra water ONLY is good for them ) tuna is OK, but not often & only Water packed tuna, best bet tho - stick with 100% nutritionally complete dog foods & dog treats...not just complete but 100% - it will say 100% on the label or whatever your Vet advises...Take Care & Be Well :)

I had a pekingese and my vet always told me to stick to one food and no table food at all. They said pekingese have very touchy stomachs. They get sick easily.
My mother and father in law went through 2 pekingese pups getting sick from stomach problems and dying before the next pup was fine that they bought. That isnt good odds at all. That should tell you about their stomachs. I would call your vet and make sure before you give anything new. At 8 months old it should still be on puppy food.

As an occasional meal---ok, but it's not very balanced as a consistent diet. Personally, I've found that when you add "home food" you end up with a dog that becomes a picky eater. It creates more problems than you can believe, including doggie obesity. I wouldn't recommend it if you have you dog on a quality kibble. I'd continue with the kibble.

Your dog needs balance.
40% protein
40% carb
20% veg
a good vit/min
flax seed oil
yogurt
bonemeal
For every 20lbs...1/4 lb protein,1/4 lb carb,4-6 oz veg.Daily.
Talk to your vet or to a good holistic vet for more info.
You can do harm if you do not balance the diet.
Good luck

If you're looking to cook for your dog from time to time, check out the Everyday with Rachel Ray website. Every issue of the magazine has dog food and treat recipes, and the website has an archive.

Do not give your dog Tuna. Dogs can eat rice a lot of dog food has rice in them. But not tuna. That is for cats.
Giving your dog other than dog food can really mess up their digestive systems.

Yes, just not as a regular diet. You do need to feed dogs prepared dog food because they add vitamins that we don't have access to. You can cook for your dog as a supplement to their regular kibble diet, however. Just do not feed them more than twice a day, this will make them fat!

I would not give him tuna you should mix it with meat and not fish....like hamburger or something but not tuna...dogs may through it up.....and he may not eat it because of the rice....

As loong as it is not making him get picky and not eat the regular food. As a main diet it would not have all the nutirtion he needs and you would have to suppliment it quite a bit.
But as a sometime thing it should be fine.
