I Hope not but I fear twenty years from now we will be visiting dogs in the zoo along with all the other dangerous and wild animals. People need to wake up and realize that this is the point to BSL, ending all dog ownership. Yes to some it seems banning pitbulls is a good idea but after that how many more breeds will be added and when does it stop? Think people!!!!

The main problem is not the pit bull. its the owner. The other problem is backyard breeders who breed them to fight, or through ignorance breed bad temporments into them.
Any dog that can be dangerous is considered dangerous, because of the morons who think they can use the dog as a weapon. I think the people should be the ones who get euthanised.
Dogs regardless of the breed will be mean if thats what they learn from their owners. People with bad intentions get these types of dogs for a reason and it is not to be a pet.
Me and my german shepherd were attacked by a pit bull about a month ago. the Dog was trained to hunt wild boar. Its owners were irresponsible, did not come out to help, and did not even get their dog the medical atention it needed! It was the owners fault it happened not the dogs.
another example.. my neighbor also has a pitbull. it is friendly as can be, loves people.. loves dogs.. and my neighbor treats it well. The dog is a PLEASURE to have around. I guarantee if you took the dogs from those two examples, and switched owners, the result would be the other way around.
I have a german shepherd which is also on "the blacklist" I treat him well, and he treats everybody else well.. Teach them by example.

Good point! Yep we have less and less power and now they can just shoot one if found in my towns in Kansas. I agree pits have been used by a few and been labeled by them all. I will only say 1 think against you on this but I do respect your views. I have never seen a pit like go to rehab??? Why don't they? I have always said only kill a dog if the dog has killed one and attacks without reason a human. I believe I tower anything not human, but I do fear the jaws locking down if I pissed one off! Damn that would hurt! So even though we are the ones who have damaged them, they still blame 100 times over on the bread (messed up) I don't have a pit only because I don't have enuf time to keep one really happy their not like an inside dog they need to move around too. I do wish for more of us to get one we have too stop this crap from getting worse. Where’s our dogs rights??? Any dog can still be fixed no matter how bad of a life he'd been through. Pits are not naturally mean to humans. Its not in their nature. in another 20 I think we won't even remember this. The pit blame will blow over, and they will get respect again.

Pekes are next. Lord knows someone might trip over them! There is a list of all of the breeds banned in any place in the world but I cannot find it right now. I do know that the pug, cocker (American and English), toy poodle, French Bulldog, maltese, and other unlikely breeds are banned in some places but I just cannot figure out why. Anyone ever hear of a mean French Bulldog? For now, this list will show that we need to start punishing the owners and the individual dogs and not the breed before we lose ALL of our dogs. For those of you who think it cannot happen, goldens and labs are banned in some places. They're often considered the ultimate family pets!

I was sick to hear that this morning on the news. You don't annialate a breed because the owners didn't raise them right or there's a few that do get out of hand. All breeds have that. Just like humans can be rotten (& in many more ways!) I think and hope that people that have them as yourself, will keep the breed going. Next would be dobies and shepherds then on to something else....

Sad but true, but humans are selfish and closed minded. So many think everything was put on this earth to use abuse and destroy. Humans gave APBT the bad rap, irresponsible and cruel humans trained them to be aggressive to meet their own sick needs. I hate ignorant people and legislation that thinks if you got rid of the APBT that you would solve a problem. It is the wrong answer because the dogs are NOT the problem, they are great dogs. The human end of it is the problem. If it is not the APBT that they are exploitng and destroying it will be some other breed.

You know the saying - there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. The breed overall has had this stigma hoisted upon it by owners that have trained/bred them to be excessively aggressive and to win dog fights. A very sad outcome from the bad actions of a few people.
Increased enforcement of laws against dog fighting and increased penalties / incarceration for those involved in all aspects of dog fighting (owners/backyard breeders/bettors/spectators/ property owners
hosting dog fights/etc.) would be a good start.
Perhaps increased Public Relations efforts by the ASPCA, as well as local and regional breed clubs, as well as by the AKC, might also help to diminish the stigma and change people's misperceptions of this wonderful breed (American Pit Bull Terrier).

In 1984 I met a pitbull for the first time.. He seemed to be nice, but before the first meeting was over, he had latched onto another dog standing there, refusing to let go, and had grabbed someone else by the leg.. This dog was raised around a very small child, who he loved and protected.. But the first impression I had of this breed was not good..
In 1988 Then I was chased with my own dog, by
a pitbull,, He cornered us and was moving in when his owner finally showed up.
in 1990 I saw the stomach of a neighbour who had been walking to the store, and was grabbed and shook til her stomach was tore wide open. Her entire stomach was bruised and stitched and was the most horrible thing I had seen in my life... She was lucky to survive.. She herself was a pitbull owner, and knew about the breed.
That same year, I witnessed a pitbull nail his owner in the face.. A dog that had normally been fairly well behaved.. Just because his owner was eating pizza and he wanted a bite.. Seems when he turned 8 he also turned nasty.. Cause he bit owners father in the crotch, and he needed surgery.. Then he bit his brother's girlfriend in the face, opening up her forehead and part of her cheek.. This dog was raised in a family with 5 kids and was said to be nice and friendly.. After he attacked the other son's girlfriend and tore open her arm.. I thought maybe they were wrong about the dogs.. Having never been hit, or abused, always fed well, walked, and trained..
One day the mailman came by, this dog went thru their front window to get at him.. Mailman jumped into a truck at the curb and sat terrified of this dog barking and flipping out. Someone on the street called the SPCA who showed up and sat in their van watching.. They refused to get out of the truck. Finally the owners came home got the dog and went into the house. I called the SPCA to see why they did nothing about this rampage, and they said that when the SPCA showed up the dog was no longer on the street.. Having witnessed them sitting there watching the dog, I knew this was a lie.. The SPCA was afraid to do something about this dog.. Likely having already run into dogs like him...
Here's the thing.. I have seen several things over the years.. Have met a guy whose own pitbull tore open his face when he bent down to feed her breakfast one morning.
Have talked to a guy who puppy was destroyed by a pitbull. Some guy driving around town with his pitbull in the back of his truck.. siccing the dog on pets that were on the street...
I have seen all these things and more.. Seen the shows on tv, showing people being attacked.. Read the news stories.. Daily at least 1 group is charge with fighting with these dogs, or dumping bodies of dogs that lost the fight..
Isn't it too late now to decide that the breed is worth being saved? How come I have seen so many things relating to the pitbull?? In the city, small towns, etc.. If they weren't generally aggressive, would I have seen so many problems? If this has been going on since at least 1984... How come no one has stood up and tried to make the pitbull a dog that isn't attacking like this?
When they go bad and hurt how come they aren't seeing a professional? How come when they tend to get a little aggressive, people aren't taking them for training.. How come people aren't training them IMMEDIATELY so that this can't become a problem..
Why wait til you are losing the breed to stand up and try to tell everyone that the dogs aren't hurting people, shouldn't be banned.... Why not do something in 1984 ??? Why wait til it's out of control?
If it's not the breed, and it's the owner.. Where are all these owners that are doing this? Allowing this?

It's a shame that they treat a pedophile with more compassion that has been abused by their mother or father, but they don't have the same compassion for an animal that has been abused by a human.
I will be the first to say I would go to prison if it meant saving my Pit. I would do everything I could including hiding her to save her life. She would do the same for me if some one was attacking me, so I will always give my Pits the same respect.
The same laws need to apply to those who abuse Pits as it does to people who abuse people. It's not fair that I have to lose my child (my pit) because of someone elses actions. People don't lose their children just because the guy next door beats his kids.
I think if everybody saw what cruel situations these Pits go threw they would REALIZE WHY SOME (Pits) ARE SO PROTECTIVE. It's not that they are protective over their owner they are just trying to SAVE THEM SELF FROM BEING HARMED FURTHER!

I know what you are talking about. If they get rid of pit bulls what will be next? People who fight dogs will have to look for another breed to fight. Who will be next? Maybe these people will start fighting German Shepherds? Maybe Siberian Husky? I don't own a pit bull, but dog fighting is cruel. Would you put your children in a pen and watch them fight to the death? No. So why do it to a innocent dog?
