Use compact fluorescent bulbs. Plug your TV / DVD player into a power strip and turn off the power strip when not in use. These appliances use energy even when they are "OFF"

Start BIG !
Most people seem to worry about light bulbs, cell phones, computers....
For example:
Shower 30 seconds less, and you can talk for 1 hour on your cell phone.
Turn your heating 2 degrees down and wear a sweater. That way, I have saved $500 furnace oil + electricity this winter.
Measure how much water you need for your cup of tea, and boil only that much.
Don't iron your underwear and bedsheets.....

If your referring to electricity. Your best bet is to use compact fluorescent bulbs, Have your house checked out by an electrician with a heat signature camera to look for bad connections. Bad connections create resistance, in turn heat, which is loss. turning your appliances off instead of standby is surprisingly substantial. An investment in photovoltaic panels is another great way to save as well.......

Turn off and recycle your computer, TV, video games, iPod and cell phone. Take a walk and meet real people and enjoy the fresher air.

wash your dishes by hand. when you put things in the dishwasher, you have to prerinse, then run the dishwasher, then sometimes rewash them because the dishwasher didn't work. So just clean them all by hand, probably takes up the same amount of water as prerinsing.
