I took my dog to the beach yesterday and everything was fine when we came home. There were a few bully dogs there yesterday but my dog didn't seem to be hurt at all. My mom gave her a bath last night and also put some Advantix on her afterwards. I noticed this morning, while taking her for a walk, that she is acting weird and her tail is slumped down. It seems as though her tail doesn't have enough strength to stand up on its own. My mom also told me that last night she was acting weird after having a bath. I don't know what might be wrong with her but I don't want her tail to be hurt at all. What are some things to look for?

She can still sort of wag her tail. Like when I was saying things to make her excited it moves back and forth but doesn't move up or down like it usually does. She is a dalmatian so she is usually all over the place and today she is just laying down in her kennel which is an odd thing for her to do because she doesn't like her kennel. She seems so sad that it makes me sad!

I also remember her eating some seaweed at the beach, the dry type. I wonder if this is really bad for the dog or not.

Yes the advantix is from the vet.

That happened to my dog (a lab) once. He was in the water at the beach and later on I noticed that it was almost like the top third of his tail was paralyzed. It was only temporary, but the vet said it was limber/cold tail. Here is a website:

www.woodhavenlabs.com/coldtail.html

(I'm not sure why it won't let me put .html at the end of that address)

I'm sure there is a lot more info out there. Hope it is just this and nothing serious!!!

In my opinion, it sounds as though you are on top of things and keeping an eye on what most of us would be concerned about. I would continue to keep an eye on her and watch for any new symptoms like vomiting, lethargy (fatigue), poor appetite, any behavorial changes, basically, anything that your dog does not normally do or anything that your dog stops doing that is common for her. If any other symptoms begin to occur, I would call and / or go to the vet immediately as I would if things remain the same with no improvement. I have a pom that walked around with a glazed - over look like he was looking at a ghost, his tail would not curl and he moved very slowly. Once checked by the vet, it was a back injury which was treated with Rimadyl and had him back to normal in less than 48 hours. Hopefully, it is nothing more than a bruise and your pet will be back to normal soon. Best of luck to you and your pet. I hope all is well with her.

Your dog might be starting to feel the hurt now, or your dog is having a reaction to the Advantix. If your dog is still like that tomorrow or gets worse I would call the vet.

Might be a reaction to the Advantix...
Did you get it from the vet? Apparently there are counterfeit products out there available. The vet is the only one legally allowed to distribute Advantix..

Poor doggie. That's why we should keep Precious on a leash. And the same goes for Spike and Brutus as well.

That said, can she wag it at all? If so, Precious' tail is probably bruised. And perhaps she has bruises on other parts of her body as well.

But do consider taking Precious to the vet just to make sure. And again, any time Precious is someplace other than her own fenced back yard, keep her on a leash.

Sad lesson learned. Not everyone trains their dog to "play nice."

Sounds like she was alleric to the Advantix. Take your dog the vet.

any drooling, listlessness, generally acting sick.
Give her lots of water.
If she acts sick wash her again, and see if it helps (remove the advantix). If not, get her to the vet. She may have eaten something bad while at the park.
