Muslim and non-Muslim scholars often translate "Allāh" directly into English as "God"
However, some Muslim scholars feel that "Allāh" should not be translated, because they perceive the Arabic word to express the uniqueness of "Allāh" more accurately than the word "god" for two reasons:
1)The word "god" can take a plural form "gods", whereas the word "Allāh" has no plural form.
2)The word "god" can have gender as male god or female god (called goddess) whereas the word "Allāh" does not have gender.[5]
The word "Allāh" had been used in the Arabic tongue in the pre-Islamic period, which Muslims call -Jāhilīyah-; it occurs in Arabic classical poetry and was also used by Jews in certain regions.
Jahiliyyah is defined as "ignorance of divine guidance" The term Allah is derived out of ignorance, or JAAHIL- an ignorant person .
The Hebrew equivalent is Eloah. Which is the singular and closest resemblance of the term Allah. However, 'Elohim is the third word in the Hebrew text (the fourth in it's English translation) of Genesis and occurs frequently throughout the Hebrew Bible. Its exact significance is often disputed'.
Gen. 1:1 In the beginning God (Hebrew Elohim) created the heaven and the earth.
One of the earliest surviving translations of the word Allāh into a foreign language is in a Greek translation of the Shahada, from 86-96 AH (705-715 AD), which translates it as ho theos monos,[8] literally "the one god".
The Hebrews believed in Elohim which is a plural term which suggest plurality in unity. More than one entity but of one mind. The seperation between the two dieties is obviously and distinctly concise. Allah is singular and Elohim is plural.
The term God is a generic term. Allah is the deity of Muslims, Elohim is the deity of Christians and Jews. Jesus is the 'made flesh' Word of Elohim. The seperations are so distinct one can never conclude they are the same deities. In fact, Islam has proclaimed God is only one entity while the Hebrew texts suggests a plurality in unity.

Allah is the name of an ancient Babylonia moon god.
Islam denies this, and they make claims that Allah and the God of the Bible are one and the same.
Argue if you will, but this is a legitimate debate.
But understand that the word "God" is a title, and God reveals His name in the Tenakh.
Allah is not the name by which God identified Himself.
The passage below not only reveals the name of God, but also brings into question any and all claims that Islam makes about Jerusalem, and Land of Israel, and the promises of the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants between Jehovah and the nation of Israel.

Here's a story. There was a guy named Jesus that preached in Galilee thousands of years ago. Lots of people follow Him.
There's also a guy named Jesus that is currently living in Mexico. He's a homeless drug addict as a result of losing his entire family to a horrible act of violence.
Both names are, more or less, pronounced exactly the same if you live in Mexico. By your rationale, they are both the same person since their names mean the same thing and are spelled the same way.
If you do not see that there are fundamental differences between the person of Allah and the person of Jehovah, using each religions scripture as a reference, I'm going to have to question how much you know about either one.
Allah DOES have pre-Islamic roots as a name. If you have a problem with that, all you have to do is say that they may share the same name but they aren't the same person. How hard is that?

Sorry sonfai...in Judaism, Christianity, and Muslim religions, they all are refering to the same god, it's just that they interpret Him slightly differently.
I suggest watching this television program. It's from the guy who made the movie "Super Size Me". This particular episode is called: 30 Days As A Muslim
Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcAmmD_SpmM
Also, Christians aren't stupid, just misinformed. Most people only know about their own religion and don't take the time to learn the facts and similarities between other religions.

They claim that Allah was an ancient Persian moon god and that it is the same as the Islamic (Abrahamic) God, which they worship also. Basically they are calling their own God a moon god without realizing it.

I am a Christian & spend a lot of time studying theology. I've never heard or read anything saying that 'Allah' is a 'moon god'. Usually a reference to such would be connected to a religion with roots in mythology, usually ancient Greek or Roman mythology, which, if I remember correctly, Islam is not. So I'm not sure who 'keeps' saying that, but be assured it's not a common misconception.
(I'm still studying, so I might be wrong)

I am a Christian and never heard of Allah being the name of some "moon god" so please don't refer to me or the other millions of Christians as "STUPID". Unless you have met God personally then you are basing your beliefs on faith like every other religious person on this planet so back off and mind your business instead of insulting people you don't even know! You want STUPID? Try a mirror.

The most correct name for God, and used and agreed on all over the world is Jehovah. You will find the names of the Prophets carry similarities in sound to this name. Many are derived directly from it. But he won't mind if you prefer to call him Allah. Like your self if your name is Tom and I call you Steve, you'll correct me when the right time comes, but, we can remain friends unless you write me a check. Then I would insist my name and yours be correct.
Remember though GOD is a "title", not a proper name................
Example::: "John is president". John is who the president is, and president is his office. See what I mean?

I agree; that's pretty stupid. However, I don't believe I've ever heard anyone refer to "Allah" as a moon god.
