Rust or cranberry would be really sophisicated accent colors or even your primary color.

I got married in October too. Sunflowers and gerbera daisies are perfect. Chocolate brown dresses would be beautiful. Mix in colors of fall like deep red, yellows, orange, green. You could use pumpkins (Maybe with a vase inside and flowers at the top) and gordes as centerpieces, leaves on the tables/decoration, jams/jellys as favors, a cider or chocolate fountain, butternut squash soup. Best of luck planning your wedding and Congratulations!

Deep ,irridescent burgandy dresses would be lovely. Brown is kind of well...poop colored.
for a center piece how about a cornucopia with a small pumpkin and pretty green ivy in it? Not a tall narrow pumpkin but a squat fat one with some silk fall leaves tucked in for more color? .
For your flowers, I love the idea of wild flowers. You could do the same for the bridesmaids but put theirs in fall colored baskets with fall colored ribbons.
And keeping with the wildflower idea, when my brother got married as a little thank you gift, they gave the guests a little cloth bag filled with native wildflower seeds to plant. It was really sweet.
For fall I see more mums than sunflowers. Sunflowers are more of a summer theme.
Depending on how formal you go, you could do hay bales and corn stalks as decorations with flowers tied on the stalks and pots of mum with the hay bales.

I'm having an October wedding too (Columbus Day weekend 2008). I was going with the fall pallet myself, but nixed the idea. The colors are gorgeous. I was going to do eggplant color dresses for the bride's maids. The flowers were going to be gold and eggplant and ivory roses. The easiest thing to do with planning a fall wedding is pick your FLOWERS first (sounds weird), but once you have those colors to work with, it's going to be so much easier to pick the dresses and other accents.

I definately think you're going in the right direction with this....I think the sunflowers would go great with an espresso color for the bridesmaids dresses....and you can use a deep orange or cream as an accent color!
I wouln't use a huge boquet...especially if you do go with the sunflowers...they stand out on their own so well.....and you said you wanted to keep it simple! For your bouquet, I'd go with the wild flowers with a few small sunflowers included.
Here are some dresses in some great fall colors to give you some options:

Wow! I already love your ideas!!
What about going with a really pretty burnt orange to accent the brown? You can also use a pretty cream color or even a deeper red.
You can also use more natural things like small/thin birch branches in your bouquets to tie in the fall theme.
Congrats & Good luck on your planning!

I think Dahlias are a great fall choice. And they go well with the wild flower style bouquet. Hanging greem Amryhthius (sp) are also a nice touch to had some interest.
Jim Heljm has some great fall color dresses. I have included below a link to two. One deep burnt orange and one brown.

Choose a latte or chocolate colored gown for the bridesmaids. Then you can incorporate the sunflowers, gerberas and liatris into the bouqetes like you wanted.

I too am having a fall wedding. The dresses are chocolate and I am using gerber daisies are bouquets in shades of red, yellow and orange. I am using mums as aisle markers in the same shades and then using them as centerpieces ect for the reception with candles. I am using chocolate tissue paper for table runners on top of white tissue paper for table cloths (my fh works at a paper mill and got the tissue for free). We are having our ceremony in our backyard. The groomsmen are wearing black tuxes with chocolate ties & vests, I think it looks good together. Hope that helps and good luck!

Orange sash on the brown dresses maybe. I love the orange roses. I think they are stunning. You should have a cider station at your wedding for people who don't drink. Make center pieces earthy with sand and a lot of branch material. Uses off white linens, and fake leaves scattered araound. A lot of candle light will add that warm fall feeling.

my friend had a halloween wedding and afterwards, gave a costume party reception. What a riot, except for one guy who came as Jesus and got obnoxious drunk. So some of the guests were forced to manhandle Jesus! (it was pretty funny).
If not a costume party, go with the indian red, sage, yellows for the season. It should be beautiful.
