I know that at the very least there would be a performance drop. The situation is i have a old 10" passive sub sitting around from a home theater system, and i have a alpine mrp-650 amp hooked up with power, just no sub to plug in at this time other than the sub i mentioned. it's not in my buget to get what i want eventually, so i am looking for a temp fix. I just don't want to hook it up if there is a chance it would somehow damage the amp.

While (as you know) it won't allow the amplifier to produce its maximum power output, there's no chance that it will harm the amplifier at all.

No damage, just half the power out.
